Went out last week for a couple hour hunt, although it was almost as long walking to and fro! The site had been pounded by my son and I but with chigger season still here and underbrush still leafed out I knew this site was rather clear and free of grasses and bushes.

No coins, but I did manage 4 buttons, nothing special about them except they are most likely late 1700s into early 1800s, then a pewter spoon handle, a shed deer antler laying in the leaves, and the best find of the day was something I did not ID till the next day when I noticed the Eagle on the relic.

The best find was a smoke house type padlock cover plate that has an eagle with spread wings and WW&Co underneath, which after seeing an older post on TNet dates it to around 1840-1850s. I think this is my second one of these but gads, have no idea where to look for the other one, but probably in one of my "junk" drawers.

Looks like no more woods hunting for awhile, but after a couple year hiatus from beach hunting, going to give that a whirl shortly.

Don,
I like seeing your posts even if they don't include old coins. ;D  Some great old relics there. I have a padlock with that keyhole cover too. Congrats and thanks for the post.

Good to see you was able to detect, pretty neat keyhole cover.

Johnny B recently found an old lock with similar shaped key hole cover.

Nice to see a post started by you! Even though you didn't dig any coins, they are still nice finds in my book!

Good luck on the sand! I hope you see one of these peeking up out of your sand scoop!

Think it would take him a week to post one of those? ;D

I think he would have it posted while still on the beach using a borrowed smartphone!

Good to see your Finds!
Like the old pewter, good sign.
Nice recoveries, will be watching for your next hunt ;D

When there are pewter spoon handles and 'ole tombacs popping, you know a beautiful shoe buckle frame is nearby. :hello2: I smell coppers in our future, Don. :headbang:
