Continued on the sheep field. We have done this field quite well but with the wet conditions & desperation we decided to cover it again. Glad we did as we have sucked up a few finds left behind;

4 Scrappy Roman Bronzes. (3 to me)
cica 1570s Elizabeth I Penny (very small & easy to miss) - found by me.
VERY RARE 1668 Brass Halfpenny Token :) - found by Dad

A forged bronze nail (looks ancient)
and bits....

3.5 hours (7 man hours work) but well worth it.

We will carry on in this field until one becomes free in mid- Feb. This field has not been done by us and is right next to a medieval church. We have to wait for the shooting season to finish.

Crusader,

I'll throw my silver horse ring out in your field and you can find and have it. BUT, I get all your finds between throw point and the ring. Your wife will love the ring.... What do you say. lol

We get about one keeper every 80 yards depending on the field. So you may only come back with a nice button. :D

Glad to see the whole family is finding some nice stuff! :o

Thanks for sharing Crusader. I love reading your posts and viewing the wonderful history you guys find over there. Can't wait to see what else you find.

Glad to see you and your dad have been able to get into the fields again. . . your time invested continues to be well worth your efforts.

Take care & HH!

hey crusader, how far apart was the nail and brass ring ? the romans used to put their cloak through a ring and then run a pin through it to keep it in place. besides it looks like some sort of pattern on the heavy end of the nail.

just my .02 worth

Nice idea, but the nail was some distance away. Plus the ring is a common find - its a medieval horse harness ring.
