2/29 Plantation lunch - Silver & relics

I did a lunchtime hunt at the plantation house today, and came up with a few things. I'm going back tomorrow. My brother
(a true rookie) was finally going to try out detecting, but he threw his back out. I'll be going it solo I guess.
My finds at lunch were:

*A 194? Merc dime. (Thanks Mirage for leaving me one ;D )

*1913 Wheat

*Old buckle

*Reese lock

*Marble & ceramic pieces. Spotted in a ravine in the horse pasture.

*Lead shot & other asst'd metal relics.
Any idea what the large round smashed metal piece is? Lantern piece perhaps?

*A brass handle (?) with "130 Fr." stamped into it.
No clue what this is? Any ideas?

Nothing too exciting, but silver at lunch is always good.

Thanks for looking & HH this weekend my TN friends,
MM

Thanks BB.
I'm hoping it keeps me busy most of the year. Tomorrow I may venture out with the horses to see what I can find. Mirage and I figured this was the area that used to be farmed back in the day. Hopefully they lost another reale or two. :o ;D ;)

Thanks Civil. I found the marble there too, just sitting up on top of the dirt that washed away.

If they have farmed this for some time, you'll see LOTS of tell-tale farm iron. I tried to find a picket post once and realized (after coming back empty-handed) that there was not a bit of farm iron in the field--It was WOODED in the past :P No wonder the picket post wasn't there. But then I managed to find it in a field that had obviously been farmed for some time. 8)

Good luck with this site, buddy! I know that there are still some oldies there. You should be finding flat buttons. In thinking back on your previous posts, I don't remember seeing very many... ??? They go hand in hand with both CW finds and Colonial ones. If you get into an area that flat buttons come out of, turn down that discrimination, turn up the High Octane, and do some serious searching there. I have an idea about your site--and I'll PM it to you right now.

Buckleboy

Miner, great stuff!
That brass-handle looks like part of a surveyor's chain. . .

Watercolor,
Looks like you hit the nail on the head. Great job on the ID. Very impressive.
Any idea how old this could be?
Thanks for the info,
MM

Bob,
Thanks for leaving me the pull tabs (engagement rings in some states). ;D I think you're just trying to slow me down until you have time to come back and dig another 1/2 reale. I'm onto your tricks Mister. ;)

I found the Merc at the base of the large Oak on the slight hill by the carriage house. Basically, about 40 feet to the left from where you scored that "V" nickel. I will eventually go back and rework the yard SLOWLY to pick up what I've missed.
The buckle and lock I dug by the old kitchen and smoke shack.
Lots still out there. Bring your Ohio bunch down, and help me dig. ;D
Oh, did I mention 60 degrees and sunny tomorrow? ;D

BB,
I just PMed you. Thank you for the tips. There is so much to cover at this new spot, I'm still like a kid in a candy store.
Here are a few of the buttons I found last week. The large grey one Crusader ID'd as a 18th century lead alloy button.
At the farm I hunted for over a year, which is just down the road, I recovered at least 60 old buttons and there is at least 120 acres I've never even detected. :o Hopefully this new spot is just as generous.

If I had to venture a guess, I would say late 19th (possibly) to early 20th century.

Take care & HH!

Re: 2/29 Plantation lunch - Silver & relics

Nice finds! WTG!

That round smashed metal piece could be part of a doorknob. Just a guess...

Congrats again! Looks like you have a heck of a site.
