I hit a new field out here on the Vineyard for about an hour and managed to pull these coppers, they are both in poor condition but finding old coppers regardless of condition is still a thrill !! Oh, and I did pull a 1934 quarter & 1925 dime to boot !! The race car was a surprise ? recovered from 8 inches down ,still has nice paint !!!

I'll take coppers in any condition also. Love the last picture with the car in the sunset.

I'd be happy to find either of those coppers, also. That's a real nice '34 quarter, btw.

That 1934 Quarter and toy are awesome. Good going.

The quarter has a thick ridge around the edge < I'm trying to figure out how to tell if it was double struck ?

Always nice to dig the big coppas! Dug one myself today, 1801 DB LC, which I was quite pleased to find :laughing7:

Your camera creativity is amazing

Driving off into the sunset ;D I love it ! Big coppers are always a :icon_sunny: site ! Nice post ! MaineRelic

I love finding silvers! Nothing like pulling bAck that earth and seeing a shiny beautifuul piece laying there form the taking! :icon_thumright:

Nice Copper & Silver! Cool '20s car (I think)
There is a thick border on your quarter, what's the reeding look like ?

Here are three more pic's if it helps ? The thick ridge around the front is unlike most quarters I have , even from that period. Not that its worth a hole lot but I would like to know if it is a double struck ?

Hmm,
with the full reeding, it's not a broadstrike, as I thought.
centered doublestrikes usually result in severe damage to the coin:

Nice coin, can't say why that rim looks thick :icon_scratch:

The last photo is a museum .... congrats!

Made me take a 2nd look.

In the first photo of the '34, the I in LIBERTY looks nearly like the T. So I put a magnifying glass on the photo, and it sure looks like there could be a second faint rim from the L through the I and B near the edge. Could be a remnant of a 1st strike. Be sure to get a 2nd and 3rd opinion on this one: it could just be my eyes or the photo itself.

Can you see it, Flyingboy?

I see the odd I serif, wish I was holding it ;D
I'm a bit confused on the difference between 'Doubled Die' and 'Double Struck' Errors.
Back in those days the mint was less concerned about watching for errors.

Don't think that's a serif. A serif is an ornamental part of the lettering, like a tail. It may be part of another rim, since it is so uniform. Another possibility is a cud: a piece of metal extracted from another coin during striking, and welded onto a successive strike.

Regarding DDO (double die obverse), these are often seen in the motto and date in the Washington series. This example does not look doubled in that way, at least to my eye.

For identification features on '34 DDO, please check PCGS website, and click on the highlighted number to the left.
