Howdy all,
Sorry I haven't been on or posted in a while. Got a new position at work that I have been having to train for and it has kept me quite busy. Hope all have had a great summer and have been getting out there detecting as much as possible.
I finally got a break in my schedule Friday and since the kids were at school and the wife was at work, I deceided to go get a few hours up at my trails and I'm glad I did.
I thought I had truly hunted this place out but as others before me have stated, "no place is ever hunted out".
I went to the trails twice on Friday, once in the morning and the second time after lunch. The first time I got a signal that showed in the nickel to pull tab range and I figured I would dig it so that it would be one other thing I don;t need to detect again. Glad I did because out of the ground popped this nice eagle button. I do not think it is civil war era but if someone could help me ID it I would be greatful. It has the standard eagle that you see on buttons of the WW2 era but this one appears to have a crown in the circle above the eagles head. Anyone know what the crown means??
Next signal turned out to be the small buckle like the old colonial shoe buckles but it is very tiny and seems too new for my eyes, but I figured I would let the experts here take a stab at it and help me with age and what it could have been for. I put it next to a coin for comparisson.
After lunch I headed back and went up this path that I almost always detect when I am up there. This same path has produced 2 large cents and an indian head for me so naturally I always check it. This time I was going slow and turning different ways as I detected and got a good coin signal under a root. I had to dig both sides of this root to get to it but when I did out came an 1873 Indian Head!. This was my second one of these I had ever found.
A few feet away I was scanning another root and was getting mixed signals but decided to dig anyway. Again under the root was the suspender clip. There is a patent date that looks like April but I cannot make out the year.
Scanning another path where a few oil lamp wick assemblies have come up I got another signal and this one was another Indian Head..1896. Now I had three of them and two on the same day!
I shot through the vegetaion for a bit and saw a nice downslope that I figured I would scan. Got another nickel signal and it was the decoratibe clip that looks like it had a couple of rhinestones or gems attached to it. If anyone can tell me what this was for from the front and back pics, I would be thankful. I imagine it is some decorative horse rein clip or something but not sure.
The last thing ( I think) was the decorative strip of metal. Possibly part of a buckle or something but not sure. Still a nice looking find.
Anyway, thanks for looking and hopefully some of you can help me id the:
button
small buckle
decorative clip
small metal strip (doubt it on this one)
