Hi all,

I had a day off today, so I checked the internet for some parks in an older area of town. Although the skies were dark and there was a chance of rain, it was barely raining here this morning so I headed to a park less than 10 miles from home. I started with the playground area, which was small and looked pretty old and unkept..found dimes and pennies right away, and a clad quarter. I got another quarter signal and started digging. After digging out a few scoops of soil I see a quarter that looks really white..then I see an eagle in flight and I knew right away what I had..my first Standing Liberty quarter.

I know I was in an old area, and this playground had a border that wasn't dug in very deep at all (probably 8 inches on one side and nearly flush to the ground on the other). I'm thinking it was lost there before the playground was installed. At any rate, I kept saying "Oh my Lord!" over and over again because that's all I could think of saying! It was hard to continue hunting and my concentration was broken for a while.

I searched the playground and surrounding area thoroughly, and came up with some clad, a Chuck E. Cheese token, a monopoly game piece (ship) and a bicentennial Kennedy half.

After not finding any extra surprises I was headed back home, but stopped by an old house I got permission to check a few weeks ago. I had found some wheats, clad, a cap gun, toy cars, a hose nozzel and other junk..I had time so I checked the front yard of the house again to see if I missed anything. I came up with a few more wheats (1944-P, 1945-P and 1945-S), an old buckle, some clad and the barrel of an old cap gun. I got a weird signal that was kind of iffy, but I dug it anyway and found my first Barber dime!! I found out later with a magnifyer that it was pretty worn, but the date was nice and clear. The house was built in the 20's and I was lucky I found a Barber instead of a Merc among all the 1940's wheats.

Here's the buckle found next to the sidewalk..not sure how old it is.

The coin total was 55, for a total of $4.26 including the silver and wheats.

It's hard to believe a coin can have that effect on me! I was shocked..the most memorable of all my finds are the ones I never expected, and that was one of them.

You should have seen me when I found the dime..I yelled out "BARBER!!" :D

Doug, the token was a 2004. I have about 10 or 11 of them, my earliest is a 1991. I also have 3 Show Biz Pizza tokens (the name of the franchise before they became CC).

Those are really awesome finds! Congrats!
