how they determined his age. At three feet tall, he might have been 8
or 10 years old.

3 foot tall man sounds strange but I’ve always figured our artifacts were older than what we see in the books. None of the ages match up with the other history that we have been told. Very interesting article.

Radiometric dating began in 1905 and has since become easier and more precise. They are talking about the La Brea Woman discovered in 1914 and now dated to about 8000 BC while the oldest date for ANY preserved organic matter is 38000 years BP.

When I lived in LA I visited the tar pits often and other such tar seeps can be found around the area but most are oil wells now. Yes, you can see the bones of mega fauna there and yes there are BIG wolves.

The human remains recovered from Pit #10 at the La Brea tar pits in 1914 (the only human bones found at La Brea so far) were established to be from a female, dubbed “La Brea Woman”.

The partial skeleton consisted of a cranium, mandible, and post-cranial remains of a woman “under five feet tall”, who was between 18 and 25 years old at time of death. The palaeontologist John Campbell Merriam published his initial findings in the ‘Science’ journal on 7 August 1914.

The remains were ultimately dated to around 10,220–10,250 years before present. Analysis of her teeth enamel showed evidence for consumption of stone-ground meal/flour, suggesting that she was part of a community that processed grain. The skull exhibited a fracture, with the possibility that blunt force trauma may have been the cause of death. Her skeleton was found in association with the remains of a domestic dog, long interpreted as evidence of a ceremonial interment, but the dog was established in 2016 to have been only around 3,325 years old and therefore unrelated to the woman’s burial.

The remains were on display alongside a facial reconstruction of the woman in the George C. Page Museum in Los Angeles until 2004, when the exhibit was put into storage. The museum was concerned that the exhibit might offend Native Americans, attract unwanted attention to the woman’s origins, and trigger demands for the bones to be returned to a tribe. Speculation from some researchers suggested a possible Chumash origin.

A little over 10,000 years old, but carbon dating wasn't an available technique in 1914. The dating of the skeleton came from much more recent research.

No, she didn't live with dinosaurs, which became extinct around 65 million years ago, long before there were hominids anywhere in the world... never mind in America, where the earliest confirmed evidence of hominids is at White Sands National Park in New Mexico, from between 21,000 to 23,000 years ago.

The newspaper article from 1914 is pure hokum, sensationalised in the interests of attracting readership.

The truth is that the asphalt seeps which formed the La Brea Tar Pits only began accumulating around 50,000 years ago. The oldest complete fossils found date from around 38,000 years ago, but there is fragmentary evidence, principally from plants, dating back as far as the age of the pits.

Among the large, mainly extinct, fossil animals found are various species of bison, camel, horse, bear, felines, wolves, sloths, mastodon and mammoth, including an almost complete Columbian mammoth skeleton.

No (non-avian) dinosaur remains have been found since they were long extinct before the pits formed. Only one human fossil has been found (the one from 1914), dated to around 10,000 years ago.

I believe the science, not the conspiracy theories.
