Did some tree planting and I figured I'd earned a two hour hunt break=6.5hrs later :laughing7:
So back to the corn patch down the road to hit it again. Even though the actual site is only a couple of acres it seems to just keep giving up the finds, but the corn stalks suck!
Got the 1815 Half Penny which is in pretty decent shape compared to the thin 23mm crispy one I dug next. The Crotal Bell is a thick honker 55gr and I believe it's one of the thickest walled bell I've dug to date.
I dug silver, saw what looked like the rim of the coin, a little silver showing so I threw it into a water container and looked at it an hour later. In the meantime I had visions of different coins and years then the cold reality of seeing a silver washed, shank less button in the water. :(
Over all it was a good day a few different finds like the bone handle, a very chewed up piece of lead about the size of a musket ball, what looks like a knife handle end, and more silver washed flat buttons that have the loops, the little rivet thingy has some leather still attached and it seems to have a gold washed washer under the first part.

Hey the way I see it is if you plant a tree, you should be able to dig up some goods, you did just that!

Awesome half penny very good hunt!!

thats a nice haul.

Cool finds! Often wild pigs would chew musket balls...

Thanks Romeo

I don't think we have any around here, but it's been chewed.

The bell is very cool!
Nice condition on your copper too, and I HATE corn as well

Thanks ironhorse

I liked it as soon as I wiped the dirt off.
NEW RULES-Corn harvesters should be set at 1" off the ground.:) It's hard swinging between stalks, doing a diagonal swing of a couple of feet, hitting the stalks, missing targets.

I dream and pray that my next field hunting experience is as great as yours. Quality digs!!! I hunted 3 times in one field. The only coin was a 1964 D penny.

Thanks for the kind reply LD. Ah it's always a hit and miss and more so the miss when it comes to fields and the finds. It seems that even when the places should produce many just don't as a lot of the early settlers into the area were so poor that there just wasn't anything to loose. Never give up on them as it's very rewarding when one does produce and if the farmer works the field then it just starts all over again. :)

Wow Pep that's some gooooood stuff my man. That crotal bell is really cool. Quality piece. Beautiful copper as well. Hope you get back there soon

Love that emerald green copper! And that crotal bell is a beefy one. Congrats! :-D

Thanks Abe

It's one of those close enough sites where one can get the itch scratched when needing be. One thing about the bell is that it survived the test of time with the ploughs and disks as it's got a few battle scars.
Hoping for a post up soon from you, never get tired of the colonial old that you get.

Great haul, that half penny is awesome.

It's one of the nicest type of patina's that come out of the dirt in my books.

It seems sort of slow going then by the end of the day there's enough added up to make it worth while.

Nice finds. Looks like you had a good day.

Beautiful half penny and love the crotal bell
