Detector(s) used
Fisher F75 with 11" DD coil, Garrett Ace 250 with 9x12 coil, Garrett Pro-Pinpointer
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I started metal detecting late last July of 2011 with the Ace 250. I quickly became hooked to this hobby and purchased an F75 7 months later. 2012 was my first FULL year metal detecting and I consider it an outstanding year with lots of firsts including my first silver coin(1897 barber dime) and my OLDEST coin to date, 1708. I wanted to find a large cent and ended up finding more than 5, wanted to find a seated coin and I found 3 and most of all, I wanted to find a confederate piece of history. I found a bunch of confederate bullets and to top it all off and what I consider my best find, a confederate Virginia state button. I basically hunted between 2 sites, with 1 of those sites being a free for all(go wherever) and another one with limited areas of the farm you can detect. So with that being said, I feel I made out pretty good. So here are the totals and what I consider my best finds.

Silver; 10 silver coins, 1 Sterling silver cross, 11 silver in all:

1896
Barber Quarter
1957 Roosie
1897 Barber Dime
1840 Seated Dime
1857 Seated Half Dime
1853 Seated Half Dime
1781 Spanish Half Real
1774 Half of a Spanish 2 Reales
1722 Quarter cut Spanish 2 Reales
1708 2 Mariengroschen Georg Ludwig silver German coin

Large cents; Indian Head cents and other noteworthy coins:

1797 Draped Bust large cent
1803 Draped Bust large cent
1817 Matron Head large cent
1818 Matron Head large cent
1837 Type 2 Matron Head large cent
1845 Braided Hair large cent
I found 15 Indian Head cents, 1863 Fatty being the oldest and 1905 being the youngest.
Found over 20 wheat pennies 1912 being the oldest.
1897 "V" Nickel
1749 King George II Half Penny
17?? New Jersey State Copper
1861-1865 "Our Country" Civil War Token

My top finds:

Civil War Officers Saber Sword Blade
3 Eagle "I" coat buttons(with gold gilt) in one hole
Full spencer bullet with cartridge intact
Confederate coat sized Virginia State button
Over 250 civil war bullets
Plus a variety of flat buttons, over 50 were found.

Well, in your first full year, you dug targets that I have not dug in over 30-years. Congratulations, and I bow to you sir! :notworthy:

I know you have probably worn out 3 pairs of boots in 2012 to dig those relics Matt but you have a collection that rivals someone who has been hunting for many years. You are in a great spot with relics & old coins still available to dig and use a F75-that's a dangerous combination. Very impressive!! HH, Quindy.

Thanks, Quindy. With a couple new sites lined up, hopefully 2013 will be even better! Best of luck to you and thanks for looking!

By the way, my boots had MASSIVE holes on the bottoms. I finally bought a new pair about a month ago. lol

WOW!!! A huge congrats, that CW token is sweet, i knew you dug that but never really got a good look at it. I guess you won the silver total for the year. Awesome job and congrats again on all your finds, hope we do even better for 2013!!!!!!!!

WOW!!! You had one heck of a year Matt8-). . . (BTW, I'll bet that '57 Rosie really spoiled your day LOL)

Looking forward to 2013 man. We got lucky with the Browns property for sure in 2012.

I have enjoyed seeing these hunts. You hunt the things I dream of. I love the Cw and you have saved a lot of history. Hope this new year brings you many more.

beautiful displays! lots of killer relics, love those cut silvers!

Wow you found a bit of everything, congrats on all the sweet coins and relics.

That is a killer year for a seasoned veteran let alone someone's first year! Great mix of Civil War and colonial finds. You are in a great area and you have the passion to make it happen

Thank you! I had to pinch myself a few times. That's exactly what I thought...beginners aren't supposed to find this stuff, only long time detectors! lol

For a first year, you made one hell of a showing. Big Congrats on an impressive start. I have a feeling there's a lot more to come from you!

Cheers,

Buck

Awesome finds

It looks like you have this whole Metal Detecting thing figured out:icon_thumleft: You have only just scratched the surface of what you will find in the future years to come.

Hey buddy. It was never I.Ded. Some said it was a hood ornament off of a car or motorcycle, but I don't think it was. Could be wrong though. Definitely not a pipe though.
