Be on the lookout for 2017-P pennies. For this year, and this year only, pennies made in Philly will have a "P" mint mark.

I was surprised when I saw a Kennedy half (1981) with a P mintmark on it . I guess they started in 1980 with half dollars . Any coin experts out there who can explain this , and what other coins have the P mintmark - I really would like to know !

I think all coins have the "P" mark, save for the penny, so I guess that's why it's such a big deal that the 2017 penny will get the "P" mark.

Are we then saying that we should be looking EXTRA hard for a 2017 penny WITHOUT a P mint mark as the exception error? if the default is going to be a stamped "P" for Philly.
