This was the first rain clear day after 2 name storms hit us one after the other. It was still gusting up to 45mph, so made it a more interesting dig.
I changed my mind at least 3 times about which field to try today. Glad I settled on this one.
I couldn't decide how to attack this big field that hadn't produced a great deal in the past but had a few bits of interest. So I did a big 'L' shaped grid.
The stunning Roman Silver was found OTWBTTB only about 10 metres from the edge where my bike was hidden in the hedge. Very lucky!
3hrs 15mins:
1 Scrappy
Broken Roman Fibula (Brooch)
Hammered Penny of Ed I (I think, not sure but is a York Mint)
VERY RARE (R3 in the 1999 reprint of RIC Vol 1 meaning 6-10 examples known) ROMAN SILVER DENARIUS:
RIC62 Claudius. 41-54 AD. AR Denarius. Struck 51-52 AD. Rome. TI CLAUD CAESAR AVG P M TR P XI IMP P P COS V, laureate head right / PACI AVGVSTAE, Nemesis walking right holding caduceus, preceded by a serpent.
