$250 Dime box (2009 D?)

Went to a new bank today and asked for a dime box and the lady brings out a strings dime box and i notice they are non circulated coins but i couldn't see the date but i figured they we just gonna be a waste of my time. Well i got home and opened the box and opened one roll just kinda thinking id be taking them all back. Well they are all 2009 D. I tore the box and opened one roll but i wish i would of looked at them before i opened the roll. I see on ebay people are asking a lot for these coins. Just wondering really what these are worth and if it would be best to keep these for years and would it be best if i got a strings roll and box to make it complete again? Thanks

I remember those 2009 unc rolls and boxes were selling for nice premiums a year or two ago but I don't know what they are selling for now but I would sure love to get a box of them and see what I could sell them for (or maybe just keep them because of the low mintage). I save any of the cir. '09's I find (though I don't date search dimes to find 'em). And the '09D's have about half the mintage of the P's too (mintage 49,500,000) so they are the best one's. I wouldn't worry too much about having an opened box because you still have all the other sealed rolls that are worth a premium.

Btw, just curious - how can you tel for sure if a String dime box is unc or not without opening it - or even the rolls for that matter. I usually search Brinks dimes so I really wouldn't know for sure. I've often wished I could have gotten some String boxes of '09 nics or dimes but I never did. And I used to wonder about the people selling unc String rolls of '09s on ebay - how do you know for sure that all the coins in the roll are '09s unless you open the roll? I assume that they are but since they aren't Mint rolls how do you know for sure? :dontknow:

Strings quite often ships solid boxes of a date. I've had to return several penny boxes back to the vault after I see shields on all of the rolls that are showing.

I've run into solid boxes of 2011 dimes. While I suppose you can't say that they are all one date without checking every individual coin, you can be 99.99% sure that if you see only shiny reverses and the only ones you can see dates on are a solid date, then you have a solid box.

This dime box had little holes in the top for each roll so u can actually look down and see the face of most coins. I just figured they were all new ones that I'd be taking back right away. Well once I saw the date I figured I check my red book I just got and it showed like .75 cents for each one in ms-63. I'm trying to debate If I should hold onto these for years or try to sell them on eBay and make alittle money to keep searching. Ive been crh for 2 weeks now I'm hooked. Got 6 boxes of halfs along with $250 in pennies and $200 nickels and $1000 in dimes for this week. Hh everyone
