I got these from a man whose father had collected them over a thirty year period. The father died and the son isn't a collector. I bought them all a few weeks ago. I just got back from getting them counted. My buddy owns a coin shop and let me use his coin counter. It still took a long time. My kids and I sorted out the pre 1940 and steel cents. That was as far as we got in the sorting process. The final count was over 26,000. The pre 40 and indian stack has 2,065 pennies in it. There are 234 in the steel cent stack. There were about 15 indian heads in the group, with the oldest being an 1891 or 1892.

The smiler is my 15 year old son Tyler, he had a blast helping me with the sorting. He is the oldest of our 5 kids.

I bought a lot of around 10,000 wheats a couple years ago. It took a long time to go through them all. My buddy and I Cherrypicked the whole lot. Came out with some nice errors. Sold quite a few for $35-$50 a piece. Not bad for paying 1.5 cents. Good luck!

WOW !

I hope you got Good eyes & alot of Patience !

Congrats on the great Deal.

An excellent way for yourself and your son (kids?) to get interested in coin collecting and something for the two of you to enjoy.'

I still recall my dad coming home from the bank with rolls of pennies, dimes, quarters and half dollars for us to search together through back in the 60's.

That's not a hobby - that's a chore for the kids! LOL

Looks like you have a winter project!

Thats awesome... :)

All I can say is...YOU ARE THE PENNY KING...

That's the problem, I don't know if I have the patience to carefully look through all of them. This is so much harder than coin roll hunting the half dollars! I am going to sell most of them, and actually have them listed in the for sale forum in case any tnet members want any. I sell on ebay and know I can clear 8 to 10 cents each for them with my feedback and listing them the right way. They will still be a good deal at that, and people will be happy with what they get.

I will probably sell 20,000 and keep the rest to go through for errors, and all the other cherrypicker varieties. This is unsearched for any of that, so it should be fun.
