Quite simply...what are the odds?? Finding two of these beauties within the span of a few months at the same site. The first was found with my MXT and made the banner here and today's find was sifting the dirt from a cellar hole 8' away from the first find. I'm speechless...which doesn't happen very often. I can't wait to get back there tomorrow!!!!

Happy Hunting Everyone

Agreed.

Do both of these examples have shanks on them?

Re: George...meet George

Way to go, Goalrush, on another BANNER find! I can bet my pile of coppers that a coat was left behind. Keep on digging that cellar hole out with the Colonial passion, because you are going to strike another one very soon!

Oh, I think you should change your title; you will get many more views as a result, and it definitely deserves it!

agreed about changing title... the one you have now George...meet George I thought you found silver quarters

Re: George...meet George

Congratulations on another fantastic find! Can you make a close up fine detail scan of only the oval on each button so we might understand the die varieties a little? It seems that there are small differences, but whithout seeing close-ups, it's too hard to tell. Terrific finds.

Re: George...meet George

Congrads on 2 amazing buttons.I agree that there may be more there.WTG.

Re: George...meet George

I was just thinking what a very rare opportunity you have now, as this was actually found in the remains within the "walls" of the home itself, to finally shed a little light on who may possibly have been the owner of the button. I presume you have already begun research in land records to see who was owner of the home during the time of the inauguration. Whether you go public with that info now, or whether you'd rather wait until you feel the surroundings have been completely worked out; that shred of information would really add much to the history of these buttons, particularly as most have been found randomly (even in the crotch of a tree!) with little or no provenance.
