This 3/4 quarter groove axe is 5 1/8 inches x 3 1/8, relatively thin at 1 1/2 inches in thickness; the bit area is well polished; Some damage is on the axe - few plow strikes and what is either use damage or flaws in the selected stone in the poll area. One side is flatter than the other, again due to the selected stone for the axe.

a central Indiana find.

You can see on the bit how fine grained that stone is. Indians usually selected the finest grained for axes and celts. Diabase was a very common choice. Gary

That’s a cool artifact. The flat end has a well-pecked or hammered look to it.
