🔎 UNIDENTIFIED 3 Piece Button with Leather

I found this button in SE PA. It looks like brass and has a very thin face ring and a normal back. It fell apart when I took it out of the hole. The middle component looks like leather or some other leather like material. It also has a depression in the middle. It was found with several colonial flat buttons, some of which had backmarks. I can guess this is some kind of colonial button, but can’t find any other examples with a leather or non-metal middle component. Has anyone seen one of these before?

I'm sorry Josh, but this button doesn't look to be that old to me, possibly late 19th or early 20thc.
The back portion with the eye-loop looks to be a 19thc design, but I certainly don't see this button being 'colonial'.

Thanks for the reply and info. I was using the colonial term in the wrong way. I assumed it was post 1820s given the back mark. Any ideas on the design with leather? Seems to be a strange way to make a button.

I've found hundreds of early buttons over the years Josh, but I've never found one with leather incorporated into it before. Anything that did have leather in it, were usually horse harness / saddle related buttons or rivets.

I'm fairly certain that the machinery needed to compress metal and leather together to make a button didn't even exist in the early 19thc yet. I'm sure someone here will correct me if I'm wrong in this statement though.
