$300,000 in gold bullion lost in Texas during the Mexican War of Independence found in 1896 by Mexican old timer who was part of the Pack Train that was attacked by Indians. That amount of bullion today would be worth $63+ million in just bullion value alone and with antique premium for coins much much higher.

Fascinating story. There are a lot of lost caches out there boys and gals just like this one. Lets go get em!

I wonder how many have been found but no one said anything, which is hard to believe.
I would think a fair number of caches remain, many of which were created during times of war, conflict and upheaval when people may not have been able to come back to retrieve their caches or kept them buried for fear of confiscation or loss, after which the winds of time kick in and many such caches have been forgotten.
