Hey Gang,

Bought a map book the other day to see what parks & schools neighboring towns & cities have. After looking at the numbers, I decided that if a city has 53+ parks and 42+ schools it must be a place I want to detect!!!!

Turns out that most of the tot lots were really dinky and the wood chips were hard and old so most of the digging was deep. Amazingly I didn't find any jewelry...except for one of those sandal medallion things and a broken ring (which I threw away).

Hit the first tot lot at 8:10 this morning...the temperature was about 47 or so then. It warmed up later in the day to about 60 or so. Hit the last tot lot about 8 tonight and finished (or rather quit around dark).

Around the noon hour I was happily detecting a tot lot near the downtown area and had picked up 6 dimes, 4 nickels and 11 pennies. I was still working the structures and had not gotten to the swings yet when the tot lot was invaded by...you guessed it...rug rats, curtain climbers and their adult keepers. There must have been 30 of them...I couldn't get to the car fast enough!

In one of the parks I found a woman's purse laying on the ground; every compartment empty. I would love to know the story behind that! I picked it up and placed it on the bench. Later I thought, "I left my fingerprints on that purse!" What a dumb a$$!

Only one of the parks was a good producer...12 Quarters, 19 dimes, 6 nickels and 23 pennies. I did hit three school tot lots later in the day; they produced better than most of the park lots did. All told I hit 16 separate tot lots today. One of the city parks produced absolutely nothing! Very unusual not to find even one penny...was it visited before I got there? Who knows...but that was a waste of time; I could have hit an extra school tot lot instead and maybe gotten a larger total.

Total coins - 349. Composed of: 212 pennies (58 copper and 154 zinc); 43 nickels; 65 dimes; and 29 quarters. Total $18.02 (a new record for me). The M6 has been deadly on dimes lately. Got home about 10 tonight. Oh yeah, I found 2 pairs of sunglasses too. One pair looks to be the perfect size for my 2 year old grandson!

The pennies would not all fit on the scanner so I'm just throwing the copper ones in their jar and the zinc ones in their coffee can. I'm a bit tired so I'll close this post out and maybe hit the hay...assuming that the M6 beeping in my brain stops long enough for me to go to sleep! I plan to hit that city on a weekend and hit only the school tot lots...I believe the take will be worthwhile.

Hope everyone is finding time to get out there & pick up some buried treasure! Happy hunting everybody! :icon_pirat:

How many pulltabs did you dig to get all those nickels? That's an impressive bunch of coins there.

Surprisingly I don't think I dug more than 5 or 6 pull tabs all day. Most of the junk I dug was unidentifiable pieces of aluminum.

Nice job prober. I agree with Nat....if you keep diggin' all those nickel hits...you're bound to get a ring. Me...I'm too lazy and concentrate on the deep silver hits ::)

I'm just the opposite of you; I'm too lazy to dig the deep ones...too much like work! :tard: :tongue3:

I knew when I got an email from my friend Clark about your post that it had to be impressive and was I ever right! That is incredible Prober! Congrats BIG time! :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny:

I can't believe someone sent you an email to tell you about my post! Thanks for thinking my post has a modicum of incredibility! In this day and age of huge gas prices I feel if I take a trip to detect somewhere I had better make it worth my while. I really didn't feel like I was finding all that much although my finds pouch which I keep in the car was getting kinda fat. Each tot lot by itself did not impress me at all. I must admit; towards the end of the day I did pass up some targets because I just didn't feel like digging 4 to 6 inches for a penny...I know; it could have been that piece of jewelry that would have made my day, but by 8 o'clock I was whipped. Thanks for your interest!

lol I would have been whipped long before you quit digging I am thinking. You did awesome. Yes, I did, in fact, get an email tellng me about how you had gotten 349 coins from Clark...he did not say who it was but I opened up my unread posts and saw "349 Coins Today" so walah! There you were! :tongue3: Congrats again and thanks for sharing it and inspiring us to keep going and not stop at one tot lot because it obviously worked well for you to keep going!

Thanks Gregg, I was more impressed with the dime count. I will admit that every time I was digging a nickel target I was hoping it was a nice piece of GOLD! Maybe next time. 5/12ths of the year gone already & I've only found 2 gold rings and 1 silver; I'm gonna have to hustle to get that count up. I love it when the jewelry store hands me hundreds of dollars for stuff I found under the ground/chips. ::)

Awesome haul ! I'm pretty sure the bullet is a .380 auto round. Nice finds

You are correct, it is an auto round. Don't it make ya wonder why we find so many bullets in the parks? I also found 3 spent 22 cal. rounds.
I like to think that the spent bullets were in the trees when they were shredded into woodchips for the tot lots. However, I'm pretty sure that isn't the case.

Great day for you.

Whenever i make a long hunt then i dream that night... all night long about detecting...

Yeah, some of the neighborhoods are a little scarey in the day time...I don't wonder at all how those shells end up in the parks.

That's funny, so do I. Sometimes I dream of detecting even when I haven't made a long hunt. :tard: :tongue3:

Thanks Freak, but that isn't a banner post. There have been lots of people that find that much in one day; it really isn't anything special...but you are too kind! Keep digging.

Wow, Bob, heck of a day! I doubt I would have lasted half that long. Glad to hear you are getting out. Nice to know that other people have MD dreams. :) Were you mighty sore the next day?

Good gosh, that's a bunch a diggin! :o I don't think I've even made a 100 coin day yet! :D

Congrats on those finds! 8)

Thanks Anne, I hadn't seen you on here lately; I thought you got lost. I haven't even rototilled yet, much less plant anything. You need to drop a few of those chores and get out & detect.
