Decided to rehit a site I had researched and scouted in my home town park last year. It is a homesite from the 1910 map, only found a a couple things last year, also saw many open dig holes and chunks of iron leaning against tree trunks. I didn’t have high hopes but wanted to rehit it with the foliage down and also check out an old road bed adjacent to this cellar hole. The original site still popped out a handful of late 1800’s into the 1900’s coins and relics, but the old road bed lead to a very early untouched site! 35 flat buttons so far including several tombac. I believe the DB LC is 1802. With the rat tail pewter spoons, buttons and coin, I think this site is one of the post Rev War land allocation settlers. Most likely a log cabin, no foundation, no stones, no brick, no glass. Only 2 pottery pieces. It doesn’t show up on any of my maps except the vague outlines of the depreciation land map. My kind of site!! Fun times.

I think you’re onto a good site for sure. I’m glad it’s nearby since it seems like you’ll need to peel through the layers to get to the really good stuff. Nice finds and good luck

Wow, great site. Your persistence is paying off hansomely, wtg! Bet there is more to come

So jealous! Congrats on your great new site! Can't wait to see more!

Great hunt Thad. That's a nice early site. Hopefully you'll get some early military buttons or silver out there.

That is sweet, I miss colonial hunting. When I used to troll the woods in Virginia looking for new sites I would neglect the roads and paths for some reason and go straight to the cellar holes and dig a lot of junk. Kind of a pattern with me then I'd return and satellite the site and pulled some of my favorite stuff from the roads leading to the site itself. Good for you awesome digs!

O….M….G!! pa-dirt I only dreams of having hunts that way I’ll find something real good but it’ll only be one thing this hunt would freak me out. A huge bucket lister of mine is a drape bust large cent And those other buttons would be my hobby for at night doing research and restorations I’m so jealous

It looks like you have a winner! Incredible finds and a site that seems to me is going to be even more generous- Good luck going forward!

Thx! Definitely some deep scratchy signals mixed in with lots of iron to work out here.

That's a crazy number of flat buttons....I'm guessing that's pretty much a virgin site. Keep at it!
Thx man. Definitely seems like a virgin site. Time to slow down and see what else is there.

Thx Steve! Period military or silver would make this really fun site incredible. I hope you’re right.

Thx! I think I have figured out were the cabin probably stood and where the barn was from the concentrations of iron. Time to satellite out!

Thx Truth. Finding a good quantity of 200 year old buttons makes you wonder what was going on there. Why did they abandon the site. Is the turn of the century site across the stream associated with the older site or just a coincidence. One of the larger buttons appears to have a couple small Fleur-de-lis on the face?
