37 pre-1930 Wheats in one hole!

I found a nice, old (1920s?) silver pinback on Saturday and a few flat buttons, but no coins. On Sunday, I went back to the same site (densely wooded) and my first target was loud and choppy, did not sound like a coin. I dug it and found a wheat cent, then re-checked-- and the signal would not go away as I kept pulling wheat after wheat out of the same hole. I was using my NEL Tornado, so target separation wasn't great and I couldn't tell how many coins were buried. When it was all done, 37 wheats were extracted, years as follows (no key dates unfortunately):

1914
1916(x2)
1917(x3)
1918(x7)
1919(x8)
1919D
1919S(x3)
1926
1927(3)
1928
1929(x4)
1929D
(And one unknown-- worn date, possible counterstamp on obverse)

I scraped enough crud off of each with a wooden toothpick to see each year. There is one that may be counterstamped that I have to look at closer. Most are in great shape and have corrosion but not much wear from circulation. Definitely hitting this site again asap.

No sign of Foreign material like leather or Tin ?

Maybe they were in a paper Coin roll
re scan the hole in a day or 2 .

the sound you got is normal.
I think it is because the Detector wants to detect the Closest target to the coil
and the ones surrounding it are confusing the circuits. so it makes a crappy signal.

I'll also guess what you think is a counterstamp is probably from Tin or
anther coin trying to stick fast. however only a guess since I don't see it.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and comments-- it's funny that a few days ago, I commented on someone else's post that I like Wheats and I think they're good finds-- and then the next day, this happened.

Good points above, Jeff, but I don't think that it was part of a paper roll. All of the coins are encrusted on both sides (except for maybe 2) and were found fairly scattered within the hole, so I doubt they were ever in close contact with eachother.

I should've put my digger next to that hole picture for scale, but it's about 1 foot square, and it almost looked as if the coins were sprinkled rather than buried in a big lump. I didn't find any other material as I sifted through the dirt that may have been some kind of a container. I went out in about a 10 ft radius with the Tornado and there wasn't so much as a beep. I'll take a closer look at that "counterstamp" coin and will post pictures if it's anything significant-- but you're right, it may just be damage (sometimes damage/corrosion can look like something else). I also found a 1936 Mercury Dime at the site but it was significantly farther way, so I don't think it was related to this grouping.
