Another half day hunting the plantation, and the place just keeps that detector singing!
The second hole dug this day revealed more silver! A 1935 Mercury dime: I have not come across a silver coin with the little bumpie distortions on it like this one has. Wondering if anyone can shed some light on this condition? I found another 1935 Merc earlier this winter on this same property, and that was nearly flawless. Could this condition be a minting issue? Have a look.......
Later, managed to pull up a 1916 Wheatie. Thing is kind of roached out, and it was found in an area
where a lot of burned material in the ground: Also found a squeeze tube with the name Zonite on the cap.
Turns out this product is from the 1920s, and was a feminine hygiene product back then.
So here is a photo of the roached out coin and the douche cap.
Here is the total haul for the 4 hour hunt.
Another 26 pieces of firearm related material.
One flat button. One suspender button. A clock gear, the above coins plus a 1994 penny. And two hunks of solid copper.
The property owner and I are fairly certain that these pieces of copper (1/4" thick), are remnants of the old turpentine
and rosin stihl. And basing on the widespread area I have been finding these pieces, and the condition they have been in, we
are pretty sure the still probably ended it's existence at the site by a major explosion!
Other misc parts and pieces including a padlock bolt, the base of a flat razor blade, and pieces of copper & copper parts.
The last thing (next to the padlock bolt) at first thought was a wood plug cutting tool. However, upon cleaning this up, this is also made of copper, so I'm open to thoughts on what that item is. There are 4 'legs' like the photo is showing two of, and a stem that is not threaded but has two holes where a retaining pin of some type may have held it onto a shaft or other part.
HAPPY HUNTING EVERYONE!
