4 Acre's & 15 yrs ... Unbelievable!

Couldn't wait to get some opinions on these pieces that my Father just gave me. My Grandfather found & picked each these items in his field (about 4 acres) from approx 1985 to 2000. My Dad had mentioned these arrowheads over the years but needless to say I was floored when he brought them in the door 2 nights ago and I got my first real look at them. Your seeing these display boxes exactly as my Grandfather put them together years ago... there's something very cool about each box! BTW... these came from south Ohio, about 12 ml N of the Ohio river.

My ultimate goal is make #2 nice display cases from this collection and then later in life, each of my sons will get one case. For now... I really wanted to get some opinions on what I have here, so please tell me your thoughts and or any suggestions.

Welcome to the site! All I can say is WOW! that is such an awesome collection! You are very very lucky to have them!

how about the next 4 acres next door?!

Great collection, and ideal on handing it down to your kids :icon_thumleft:

Thanks for the welcome and as of right now, that piece of property and surrounding fields are still in the family. My Grandfather walked his fields each spring after the rains settled down the plowed fields. After seeing this collection I'm begining to wonder what could be found a few feet deep as the plows only turn 12" to 18" of soil.

Here's several individual pics of the different peices. My Dad is under the impression there was a tribe that lived in that immediate area and traded bulk flint rocks for finished arrowheads to different tribes and that's why there's so many pieces & different colors of rock.

If anyone can tell me approx age of these pieces or where I could find out more info on them that would be great.

Great collection you have there....you may want to try arrowheads.com to get some id's an idea as to age.

Welcome to the site and great finds. There are points in there that are a couple of hundred years old all the way back to ~8,000 years old. You really cover a lot of time with this collection. There's also one broken point that is ~10-11,000 years old but it's not all there so it's hard to give more details. Great collection and we'd love to see what you can find in these same 4 acres! Or send us directions and we'll let you know what we find!?!?!?!?! :)

Welcome to the site and thats a nice collection. If your family still owns the property and still plows it there should still be many more to find. No plowing going on here anymore just no till farming which only goes down a few inches every 2 years.

What part of southern Ohio are you from? I live in Scioto county and any of that could have come from any field that I hunt. Classic examples of what we find here in southern Ohio. Most of what you show in the second post looks to be Archaic with a possible Adena in there. The others are a mix of Archaic and Woodland culture artifacts but I don;t see any Ft Ancient pieces (Triangle Points). I guess the site these came from wasn't conducive to what the Ft Ancient people needed in a site for their villages.

I live in Pittsburgh now but these came from just East of you... Vinton area. I'm a complete newb to this but printed out a date/arrowhead type chart and my Dad mention that the triangle points were missing as well. Makes you wonder what changed after thousands of years in that area that suddenly everyone left. ? Cool stuff!

Speaking of years... how many years do you all think this area was occupied? I read something that mentioned Shawnee tribes in this area? (This stuff is very addicting!)

BTW... Sorry for double posting the original pics. Mods can delete the smaller pics if it helps.

Holy arrow heads. Nice collection!

I am very impressed with your collection. I am really interested in knowing what the "V" shaped piece in the bottom right of the third picture down is.

Not sure about this piece as well. Hopefully these pics help someone identify what I have here. This piece is very smooth, almost feels like leather. However, the break on the back side is so clean it couldn’t be leather. (That’s my 5-day expert analysis. LOL)

That piece looks like a Cannel Coal Pendant. Those are usually found on Ft Ancient sites but could be Middle Woodland as well.
