Hi all,
Hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving. I took some time to rest my hand, back, legs etc. from all that hunting this month and felt up to a Saturday afternoon hunt to walk off some Thanksgiving leftovers..it was about 40 degrees, but with a sweat jacket, a quilted flannel shirt and a pair of jersey gloves I was very comfortable, and the ground was still warm enough for easy digging.
I went to my old junior high school football field first and wasn't finding much..I did find a lanyard with a student ID and house key laying on top of the grass that I picked up to have returned. After a little clad I told myself "one more coin and I'm leaving". As I headed toward the truck I found ring #58, a plain sterling band.
Then I went to another school where I had searched the wood chips earlier in the month but never tried searching the soccer field and playground. I began finding clad right away, including 2 pocket spills of quarters, dimes and pennies.
Ring #59 was another sterling silver, found in the grass between the soccer field and the blacktop, the nicest of all the ones I came up with.
Now I knew I was only one away from the big 6-0 and I was going to stay there until I found it! About 20 minutes later I did..it ended up being a fairly heavy old costume ring, found on the sideline on the west side of the soccer field.
As the sun dropped lower in the sky it got noticeably colder and I could see my breath, so again as I headed back to the truck I got a pulltab reading, which turned out to be ring #61. It looked like gold, but it was only 18K gold electroplate. I was still happy to find it and couldn't believe my luck. I never found this many rings in one year before. I actually found 5 rings, but one of them was a kid's tin ring and I never count those in my ring totals.
Besides the rings, I ended up with:
-student ID/house key
-padlock
-2 keys
-hoop earring
-2 buttons
-2 zipper pulls
-1 pin ("Professional Sports Club")
-80 coins (47 pennies, 7 nickels, 19 dimes, 16 quarters)
Hope you all have a chance to get one last hunt in before the nasty weather comes..it began to sleet a bit here this morning before the rain started.
