I bought an estate lot of 26,000 wheat cents last year, and sorted through and sold them. You would think I learned my lesson after 1 time of sorting such a huge amount. I couldn't resist this lot of 40,000 wheats from an estate. Many coins were already partially sorted, including a bag of 1200 steel cents, plus many uncs and more steel cents in those bank folders. I have sorted the ones in the box, and the box is all 40's and 50's. I am going to sell those by the pound and figure out how to best list the pre 1940's. I did find an 09 VDB in there, and some of the 1937 pennies must have come straight from an original roll, there are some beauties in there. The bags in the back of the pic are still unchecked, can you say eyestrain?

:o You must be a glutton for punishment. LOL Did you find a 1931s in either hoard? If so, what're they worth?

Not in the first lot, and this one still has over 30,000 to go through to find out. The value depends on condition, but I see nicer ones going for over $100 on ebay all the time. If you post a pic I can give a good idea of true resale value for you. The redbook is over priced, I have dealer grey sheets I go off from.

It is. The keys after 1920 are 22-D, all varieties, 24-D, and 31-S

i have 850 wheats that came from an old air base i been hunting and if im not mistaken i just might have a couple of 31s. :icon_scratch:

So did you sell the original one for more than you paid for it? Sometimes these "estate" sales are just coin shops dumping scraps :)

Just cannot steady the camera enough when in close-up mode. Sorry for the poor photo, but it's the best I could do. Can you give me any idea what it might be worth?

grading points on wheats are the ears and cheekbones on the obverse and the wheat stalks on the reverse. Most folks use photograde for lower grades below AU. If you don't have one I have a spare that i can give you. Had something headed your way anyway so won't be much extra for shipping. Just let me know if you want it. regards, ss

Treasuretales, I have the value for you. I hadn't looked at the pricing on the 31-S for a while, and the price trends are interesting. The difference in price between G-4 condition and AU-50 condition is less than $30, so a clearer picture is not needed. Your coin is legitimately worth between $115 and $125 according to grey sheet, which again is the best source for true value, and the pricing guide used by dealers and individuals like myself who buy and sell large quantities of coins. I have no idea what redbook shows, I haven't owned one for 15 years...

I made around a 20% profit on the first batch, and will do even better on this batch.

I am more excited about a purchase of $2500 in coins I made yesterday. I will post some pics next week of coins that will blow you away, I got a deal that people dream. I have to wade through these wheat pennies before I get to the new coins, my wife is sick of seeing old copper(make any joke you would like about that comment).

WOW!. . . that's a lot of wheats!

I'd take a couple of handfulls and throw them in a few parks. . . along South & Dunton, Arlington Hts, IL ::)

give me time to find my wheats remember im an old@#$%^$
