Helloooo there TNeters! Well, I haven't been out much this year...but I had the itch and HAD to scratch! So, at around 7:00pm this evening, I went out to a local park for a nice short hunt, to get a quick fix. Well, the hunt lasted about 45min - 1hr and didn't find too much, but a nice first ;D Found about $0.50 in Clad and My First Whole Six Shooter! (Atleast I think that's what it is :D) So, I'm ECSTATIC about this find, but have a few questions. This is definately a cast-iron toy gun, but it is VERY eroded. All around the gun the iron is eroded and eaten away, so I'm a little weary cleaning it. What would you suggest? Warm water and a soft brush? Just leave it? The only identifying marks are a J? (M, J or K) on the side. Anyway, here are some pics of the gun, my first :) Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks! HH, Chris (Kiko) ;D

Murder Weapon :D Looks kinda like a Rossi or maybe a colt hard to tell either way awsome find

I am no pro, but would suggest using a soft toothbrush or similar type of brush after spraying it with WD-40 or other type of oil. Keep us up to date on how it turns out.

Looks like an old S&W "Top Break" or an Iver Johnson? just my 2 cents...... ;D

it might be a el cheapo model "pot metal" type tear gas gun that some women used to carry to keep muggers at bay *before the "pepper" spray items came on the scene* -- it was non leathel but it would put out a cloud of tear gas for a short range once fired--- they used a modified 22 cal blank shell that had mace in its mixture --no bullet --they were little more than a glorified "cap gun" that looked like an el cheapo saturday night special ---a Piece Of Junk as far as really protecting you but the mere sight of what might have been a gun ---often caused bad guy "strong arm" types to flee since they were not going to stick around to see if it was real or not-- lets see the barrel end -- the handle looks like it cast iron hollow type --- kinda like a saturday night special look to it

For those that replied that might think otherwise, I'll reiterate what the original poster said--This is not a real gun.

I can't see any harm in using a toothbrush on it...you might want to do it "dry" instead of wetting the surface of it if you'd like to preserve as much detail as possible.

Regards,

Cool!!! When you clean it, it will start to rust again, so be sure to use some kind of oil to stop or atleast slow down the oxidation.

I have only found 1 whole one so far.

That's a nice looking gun, it's in one piece so that's a plus!

I agree with the toothbrush method..I use dishwashing soap on the brush and give it a good scrubbing, then after it's dry put some oil on a rag and rub it over the entire gun.

Nice find

Hey everyone, thanks for the replies! I love the other guns posted, very nice! Well, I'm half way through the cleaning process, and I've used BB's "Dry Clean" method, and thankful I did! The gun was slowly crumbling under every movement. If I used water or anything else, it would be in a much worse state. I really want to keep this gun whole, as it is my first! ;D Well, here a few updated "clean pics", and If I decide to do anymore cleaning, it will probably be an attemp the fully clean it, so, I'll use Natmans "cleaning recipe" Alright, enough talk, here a few cleaner pics, the dirt from the barrel, under the trigger, etc. has been cleaned out, and there is one shot when I just plopped it out and it was laying in the hole. (Bad quality, was taken from phone camera) Thanks! :D
