6" DD VS 10" DD coil

Hi, I am looking to buy a DD 18.75 kHz coil for my XTERRA 70. I was wondering what the difference is between a 6" and a 10" coil. Can one detect deeper than the other? I will mainly be using this for gold nuggets. Thank You in Advance!

Re: 6" DD VS 10" DD coil

The 10" will go deeper than the 6". The larger the coil the better the depth in most cases.

Re: 6" DD VS 10" DD coil

The 6" DD is much better in trashy areas and it's much lighter than the 10.5" DD coil. As a rule of thumb, all things being equal, the 10.5" coil should detect approximately 4" deeper.

Re: 6" DD VS 10" DD coil

I have both coils and each one is great.
I use the 10.5" coil for hunting large areas and the small coil for trashy sites and small areas.
They both get good depth, but like the others stated, the larger coil will detect deeper.

I have both also, but to be honest with you, I use the 5 x 10" elliptical 18.75 kHz DD coil and the stock coil the most.

Occasionally, I use the 3 kHz CC coil. I probably use the 6" DD coil the least and the 10.5" DD coil next to the least.

In my opinion the 5 X 10 elliptical coil is better for my needs. It's not waterproof, but I don't care. It's water resistant enough.

have had the 6" 18.75 for about a year and a half and have never taken it off It does get pretty good depth I have found dimes at 5-6" before. I also had the 10.5" I didnot like the weight. you can't go wrong with the 6" though

Re: 6" DD VS 10" DD coil

I like the 6: DD coil better than the 10" coil mainly because the areas that I hunt in the big minelabs are allready getting the deeper nuggets and the 6" coil is better at isolating the gold from the trash and it is also more sensitive to the smaller nuggets than the 10" coil.

Hi there, the DD 18.75KHz is a great wee coil for finding small gold nuggets trapped in the bedrock crevices, cracks ect.
I brought my 6inch DD around a year ago and have found plenty of gold in the crevices ect.You wont get a better set up for that type of nugget huntting.
If you want depth the 10inch would be better.
