600 or 800? Convince me why the 800 is needed.

Either machine should be fine for any water hunting. I mainly hunt in areas where relics are not so expected. I am looking for possible relics but mainly older coins and of course, jewelry. I know that the 600 should and does hit the bigger gold and silver but what about the finer stuff. When, not if, I get a NOX, I will have to try it out some on my sites. is the extras really worth the extra cash? I understand that I will be able to use a blue tooth hearing device with the 600. I believe that the 800 comes with the ability to use your favorite head phones(not BT) with the receiver. I am looking at the Nox to be a backup for my Deus and my water machine. Thanks for any input. Jerry

i don't understand how some say nox 600 uses all frequencies-5, 10, 15, 20, 40 when in multi, but then can't use 20, 40 individually... then in minelab chart shows nox 600 with multi,5, 10, 15, so i don't really know if nox 600 in multi mode in reality only uses 5, 10, 15, anyone contact minelab about what nox 600 uses in multi?

Both the 600 and 800 use all 5 frequencies in Multi. Just can't use 20 and 40 on the 600 as single frequencies. That's it.

They are showing you the individual freqs available on the 600

Straight from Minelab website, I just highlighted some statements.

"Multi-IQ Most of the confusion I have seen online revolves around Minelab’s new Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency technology and the frequencies employed by the two detectors. The EQUINOX 600 is limited to 5 kHz, 10 kHz, and 15 kHz single frequencies, while the EQUINOX 800 also offers these plus the additional higher frequencies of 20 kHz and 40 kHz. This does not mean that the 600 is not employing the full multi-frequency range as part of the Multi-IQ processing. Multi-frequency operation is identical in the two models and provides the same maximum signal response to targets in Park, Field and Beach Detect Modes., The real magic of EQUINOX is in the Multi-IQ technology (not the single frequencies), therefore you can rest assured the EQUINOX 600 matches the EQUINOX 800 in this regard."

You should buy the 800 because the 600 has to much confusion surrounding it.

People are trying to make it more complicated is all It has been posted multiple times the 600 and 800 operate the same in multi-iq.

I found these saved them, maybe it will help someone.

Yes, you will hit the finer stuff with the 600 on both ends of the spectrum. For that matter you can do some competent relic and nugget hunting with the 600 as well with some manual adjustments. If you read about the various modes you'll notice that park 2 and field 2 use a higher frequency weighted signal. Gold mode on the 800 has a multi option with a higher frequency weighted signal. Originally Minelab wasn't going to include multi IQ in Gold mode. But in testing It was found to be as effective as 20 and 40 alone. If you were to get an itch to prospect you would ground balance for highly mineralized soil or use auto tracking. But in terms of small, fine, or micro jewelry neither model would miss them. They are both THAT sensitive. The 800 would hold a slight advantage in heavy trash because of its extra reactivity settings. I've been comparing and contrasting with a buddy, and I would say that if you are on a budget buy the 600. To me it's the best deal on the market right now and there's not much real world difference, and many differences can be made up with manual adjustments to simulate. If another $250 is not a big deal, go with the 800 and you won't have that nagging feeling. Also, if you want an Equinox now but don't want to wait for an 800, buy the 600 to use and familiarize yourself with the platform until the 800s are more available. These units will hold good resale value. You might decide you don't need anything more.

I've got the 600 and have an 800 on back order through the big K.
From what I see I will not need both. I'll just have to buy my own wireless headphones.
Don't think I'LL be doing any gold field hunting.

The 600 is $649.00

:icon_scratch: I did some more testing swinging a small piece of copper and you get more depth using your hand because the detector picks up the minerals in your hand.
Try an air test with your hand only.
All the videos doing the air test with their hands are not true test . Try taping the item on a stick.
I remember with the DFX i found a small tip from a deer antler because of the minerals in it.

:laughing7:-If you need to choose you can afford the 800...put the money down and don't look back...
-if you get the 600 you know you need to spec and acquire a set of wireless headphones...thats a bit of a pain...and you do not get the extras (frequencies,wm08,fine tuning audio etc.)
-if you get the 800 you will need to wait longer.that wait will try your patience and show others you have stamina and will power and generally make you a swell person in the eyes of your peers.
-the 800 comes with a name tag that you can put in your wallet, adoption papers like a Cabage patch kid.
- the 800 has a bigger number
-you can use the 800 to jumpstart your pickup
-your better half will let you put the 800 on the dining room table over night.(after its had its bath that is)
- the 800 has a bigger number(did I say that twice...good its worth saying twice)
- the 600 will keep flies from going in your soup
-the 800 makes you look 2" taller
-the 800 will make your feet look bigger when you look in the mirror
-the 800 will improve you vocabulary
-the 800 will let you consume more alcohol without tipping over
and there are many many many other reasons why you should choose a 600 or a 800 equinox.
and if you can't make up your mind ...buy one of each and give the other to you partner so you have something to quibble over....:laughing7:

On the 600 you only have on and off in the Back light, some say that on is too bright. On 800 you have low, med, high and off

You do not get a user profile button that you can switch back and forth to with single button touch, allows you to set up a custom program you can hit with touch of a button then go back to factory mode with touch of button.

Noise cancel is auto only on 600, 800 is auto and manual, -9 to +9

600 only has tone break/tone volume/tone pitch for ferrous. 800 has it for both ferrous and non-ferrous targets.

Threshold pitch is fixed on 600 and 0-25 on 800.

Wm08 is not included with 600 and is included with the 800, it is a $259 cost to buy one.

Blue Tooth headphones not included with 600, are included with 800.

There is a few other things to consider.
1. How old are you, I'm 60 and it's not as easy as everyone says to learn new stuff,But if you have patients and read a lot on this site, you can get through it,
2. What detector do you have now. Big learning curve if last detector is different than ML.
A few things I would like to add about the backlight I detect at first light and I've never even had my light on, don't even know if it works.Personally if I would have bought the 800 first. I would have been lost. That being said I would by one in aminute now. Good luck on your decision.

You have a Deus....as do I.....you dont need the 800.....hence why i bought the 600....you can "fine tune" the Deus more so than the 800 can fine tune over the 600.
