I can't tell you if it is a real spear point or not but in any case, it is some serious hardware and one that would do some serious damage to anything it came in contact with! I am sure that anyone that tries to answer your question, will want to know where it was found.

Unless it is a personal find. I think it is a reproduction. There is a North American Artifact forum you can post it on for more feedback.

pretty sure your going to have to give a bit of info.....whats it made of,where is it from......looks fake as a $3 bill to me,and if its not....it isnt from any Native's in the US

I have a providence. It came out of California. A family member of the estate has the information. It is documented along with the celt. I am not a collector of Indian artifacts. I think it is as real as I am alive. Would like someone that has knowledge of what this would be called?

What a fellow told me is that they used these for only burial.

That is NOT a California Native artifact like I have ever seen in 35 years of collecting West Coast Artifacts.Looks as if it was fashioned with a chainsaw file and machine cut

Last night at the library in the Overstreet identification guide on page 1098 ninth edition, Stocktonthere are very similar points like this one and the wear and patina looks good. I do appreciate your help but I will pursue getting this authenticated to make sure due to the fact that the estate this came from and knowing them suggests me to do so.

yes, the edges look to be fashioned by a file. that's not to say it wasn't done that way by indians however. Looks like something to use on whales or dolphins.... a sea point.

Perhaps better photos, in the light of day, would provide additional insight. You have not told us very much about this piece, i.e. material, all that provenance information that a "family member of the estate has..." What is the material between the tines? What did you find at the library on the "Overstreet identification guide on page 1098 ninth edition?"

Not fake! I have been told now hands on by 3 local collectors this a real piece but not sure for what use? Maybe soap stone? granite? Slate? Maybe not Indian? Eskimo? but either ceremonial, seal, prehistoric animal weapon and whaling as mentioned by a member above. I will try and provide better pics. The collectors I had showed it to were very interested in it. They also will be helping me describe what it is. In the hands it does not look fake.
