I got permission to hunt a 100+ yr. old farm not far from me. They had told me that the original home burned down in the 70's. I asked them where it would have been on the property, but they really couldn't remember. So, I went on NetR online and pulled up an aerial map from 1952. There was a large barn and 2 other out buildings that used to be on the property, but I could not see the house. There were alot of tree's, and I probably looked at that aerial for an hour, trying to find it. Finally made the decision on where it had to be.

Sunday I went out there, and went to the spot I thought the house should be. Within about 10 minutes I get a solid 82-83. I use an ATP and had it Pro zero, iron audio and didn't here any iron. Then I noticed there were more in that small area, all separated.

So I start digging, and I hit a piece of flag stone. Pull it out, then another. Pull it out, and hit a very obvious large stone that you would see on a stone foundation for a home. Bingo, found it! Problem was I'm still getting the 82-83 signal......Thru the stone!!!

So I dig on the other side, and sure enough it's a double thick foundation and the signal is in between the stones. Just my luck. Or hidden treasure? :icon_scratch: Not likely.

Anyway I spent over an hour doing this and was happy to find the house, but it was time to move on to check out other structures that used to be there. I'll bring the C4 next time for the foundation.

So here are my finds. It was along day, and didn't find a single coin, but I had fun, and a work out. Thanks for looking.

If you have any info on anything you see here, please enlighten me.

Maybe take an iron tamp bar with you and move those stones. You probably have a silver between them.

Man you dug everything, where's the kitchen sink? Glad you didn't swing your coil over the trash pit. :tongue3: You sure are thorough.

You're a diehard man, how's you back feeling after that workout?

At least there will be less garbage to dig the next time you go there.

Had discrim on 40. Don't think I'll do that again. And , yes I was a little sore the next day. It was the first day there and wanted to see what was in the ground. And now I know!!!

I don't blame you for digging everything. I would have been too excited to stop digging. Imagination is a wonderful workout partner in this hobby. Congrats on the permission!

Thanks, I had made the decision to dig everything before I got there. The ax head I found about 4 hrs. in, and strangely enough, that made the first 4 hrs. worth it. I love this Sport!!

Hey Loco, the kitchen sink is still there, and I will find it!!:laughing7:

I bet you will get your coin(s)!! Dig until your arms fall off!!!! Keep Swinging!!

That's how it is done...
Dig it all.

There should be some better items on this spot... I would work it as much as possible.

Wd ... good work.

Keep digging digger, get out about 20 yards from where you were digging that foundation and grid search it. Might come up with some coins, try your iron discrim around 10 so you can hear the iron some and know where the trash is. Cherry pick the entire area first, then come back and dig everything. Just a suggestion, nice thread.

I personally dig it all... all the time.
Cranked.
I don't care... I love it.

Lazy mans pay and the hard working mans pay rarely match up. :P

PS> once you have cleared an area... Come back in early morn... crank up your sens and move reallllllll slow...
Listen for the faintest changes... so slight.
Dig again :)

Plenty of signals there..It does take a bit of time to find where the best area is for coins etc..at a 100+ yr old farm site there should be some goodies.....good luck

Man, I can't tell you how many of those staples I have found on my property. Great job on the research to find the home site, now get out there and find some coinage.

Sure did some digging and it looks a lot of the iron is what a homestead holds. It looks like you're in the barn/shed areas where the trash is dropped in and around the buildings. I noticed that there is some square nails and that's what I like to see when I dig a little bit of the small iron out to see if I'm on the site and the age. The first photo the triangular shaped ones are the replacement blades for a mower, and the broken axe is the victim of getting hit by a plow. It like Treblehunter said go out 20yrs or to where the targets quit, do this on all sides and then you have a feel for the site and how much area it covers, then cherry pick your way back in to the heavy laden area.

Being a relative newbie at this, I knew there was going to be alot of iron, so I put the disc. at 40. Now I found out that was not a good idea. The main reason I dug all of this, is because everything you see had signals between 50 and 70. I guess that's because I had it set at 40. One good thing is the soil is 50/50 blackdirt and sand, so easy to dig.

ATPRO user. Anybody out there with suggestions on where you would set it for the next time? Coins, jewelry, etc.. I still have that, "if ya don't diggit, your going to be sorry" mentality.

great job hoovering.I'd be sore too !!

Doctor say's I'll be out of traction in a couple of days.!

That is a pile of stuff! I admire your gumption for digging it all. Good show!
