7" vs 8" coil?

Hi Everyone,

I have a newbie question here. I have a Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker that came with a 7" coil. It also came with the 10" coil. I have an opportunity to purchase an 8" coil for this machine at a decent price but I am wondering if it is really needed. Will there be much difference between the 7" and 8" coil? Since I already have the 10" coil, is there really a need for it? I mostly relic hunt but I plan on doing more coin hunting in 2010.

Thanks in advance for any advice that you might be able to share.

There will not be much use in getting the eight inch coil for your machine. You could do better with a smaller coil for the trashy areas if looking for coins.

I'm with sandman on this one. You will see virtually no difference between an 8" and a 7" coil, however a 4" would be handy in trashy areas and when hunting near large iron such as bleachers, chainlink fences or playground equipment.

Thanks for the replies and advice. I received the 4" coil for Christmas from my wife. ;D I am going to pass on the 8" coil then. Thanks again.
