Detector(s) used
Ace 250 and Omega 8000
Thinking of buying a new detector and was wondering which one would be the best for coins and deeper older silver coins. I have been looking at the At Pro and the minelab 705 and am leaning towards the 705. Like to hear from some of you who have one or the other or both and what you think about it. I have the ace 250 now and its time to go deeper. Thanks for your time!

I have an AT Pro. It is my first and only MD. I love it. I find coins at 8-10 inches with it. Nothing old yet, but I think its great for coins. I found a small silver ring at about 5-6 inches. I wish I could help with the 705, but I have never used one. I'm sure its a good machine. Good luck and enjoy your new MD.

I don't think you could go wrong either way. I would personally take the 705 but would be very happy with the At Pro.

The AT has AWESOME features with waterproof, iron audio and DD coil. &05 is a great coin machine and you can switch coil and change frequency, very cool.

Holler with any other questions or for a great deal! Thanks, Bart.

Bart, I assume you have been in this buisness for a while. Which one of the two would you buy and why? Im still debating on which one to get. I have the Ace 250 now and thought it would be cool to try a different brand name. I have watched most of the videos on youtube on both machines. Not much to see on the xterra though. I want a machine that I dont have to upgrade for a while. Seems that most of the deeper silver is found with Minelab detectors. Anybody else got any info im listening. It will be another 6 weeks before I buy this new machine. Thanks everyone for your help!

I have used both. My first minelab was an Xterra 50, then 705. After that I got the F75LTD and the At Pro. In my soil, the At Pro and F75 get me deeper targets. The 705 was a nice unit, but I like the wider range of VDI numbers on my other machines. I did like the frequency capabilities of the 705 coils.

I have owned a At Pro but my go to detector is the 705. I just didn't like the heavy headphone setup on the AT and it felt heavier than the Xterra. I love the tones on the Xterra - an unmistakable high tone on quarters than doesn't require you even looking at the screen to know what you've got. Of course it's not a water detector
like the AT. I have also owned an F4, F70 and a Cortes, but the 705 tops them all.

Both good choices, but unless you plan to go into the water a lot, I'd vote 705.

I am a cheapo. I would go Garrett AT Pro Spring Special 2 Coil Metal Detector | Big Boys Hobbies because it comes with 2 DD coils and its cheaper. Both are GREAT machines but the Garrett AT Pro Metal Detector | Big Boys Hobbies is just more value packed with features.

I own and use both. In most situations I will grab the Garrett AT first. There is no perfect detector.

Hope this helps!

Do you want to buy American made or Australian made?
To some people that would make a difference, does it to you.

Which one has a five star rating and is the #1 Best Seller?

I vote for the AT Pro, very versitile, easy to use, lots of accessories. I love mine.

I have the xterra 505 and love it, I don't like the Garrett's machines but to be honest they make quality products and the Ace 250 is probably the best starter machine made!!! But you have to either buy an adapter to use different headphones for the at pro, or buy the ones Garrett wants you to use. I have found a lot of silver, and relics with mine and I am really satisfied with the Minelabs. Now remember that is just my opinion and you really can't go wrong with either. Go to woodland detectors and ask mike, he will shoot it to you straight and help, even if you don't buy it from him!!!!!

I must admit as much as I love my At Pro and Sand Shark , I would love to get a Mine lab too! Just cant quiet afford one right now, and it would be too dangerous to do so as well,, with out finishing the deck for the wife first lol :)

I would have to go with the 705 also! It is more quality for the buck as the meter on the AT won't lock on.
