8 cents for a 1855 dictionary!

I found this at the Salvation Army for 8 cents. I think it has been rebound. The inside cover sheet says 1855, and the paper looks really old. Any ideas on the actual age and value?

I had a teacher in grade school that would make you sit down after school when you were bad and make you copy pages of the dictionary. Believe it not that's torturous punishment. You'd ask is this good enough and she'd say no and to keep writing more. Man everyone was gone and having fun and I'd be looking at each word and writing one after the other.
