A morning hunt at Druid Hill Park in Baltimore produced a few relics: small cuff button without shank, a small part of a harmonica reed, an 1890 IHC (toasty) and, really toasty, the mortal remains of a 2-cent piece, also shown compared to an uncirc example.

Nice finds McCDig, stay safe my friend.

Thanks Al.relics! Will do.

Thanks Whadi! Sounds like the 70s at Druid was a "walk in the park" compared to today. You had it good then. Thankfully the "vets" left us some keepers.
Keep walkin' my friend.

Oh my yes! The "vets" left stuff uncovered. But no more intentionally than now. That place will *always* have undiscovered secrets. I'm thinking though, that we may be approaching a time limit.

What I mean is that like copper, bronze, silver and dare I say it? Even the gold might have expiration dates, in the ground.

If you want to see examples of my theory. Look up my entry under "My Best Finds" forum. There's a Two Cent piece and a Flying Eagle cent that I found back in the 70's. You wouldn't believe their condition, being dug coins. Since the early 2000's , I haven't found any coins nearly the same.

If memory serves, the two center came from Druid. Wouldn't that be something? If it was the same knoll?

Congrats on the 2-center. I've only ever found three over a bunch of years. My last one was super toasty too! Regardless of the condition, its a very nice find in my book.

Nice finds and congrats! I hope you bathe that 2 Cent piece in Acetone for 5 to 10 minutes to try to arrest the verdigris, then rinse in water, pat dry, then into a long soak in Mineral Oil before attempting to toothpick or green Rose thorn pick the encrustation off the coin as well as any verdigris that will come off.

Nice finds, McD! Those 2 Centers are not getting any easier to find...I've seen worse so consider it a great discovery, and yes I saw the Hoover Boys cleaning up with their ATX, I too was surprised at the amount of coins, relics and iron they dug. Hope they left some scraps for McD! Thx for sharing, Ddf.

Very nice finds! Nice IHP and button! That 2 cent coin is an awesome find! Congrats! :icon_thumleft:

Well I hope McD left some scraps for THB! Nice deucer Mike!

Awesome find. I was privileged enough to watch Treble hunter find 2, 2 cent pieces from 2 different locations within about 1 hr of each other. It was unbelievable :)

Thanks Brad! Yes, I'll play nice and share. :)

Thanks Ken! When you consider these were minted for under 10 years, Brad's hits is amazing.....nice "hot spot".
