It was slim pickins this weekend, but did manage a couple nice finds. A 1802 Large Cent with decent detail, a Mass. Volunteer Militia 1-piece button, and another decorative 1-piece button. Of course, also found were plenty of the usual Indian Head cents, plain buttons, and other colonial debris. Any thoughts on the age of the Mass button? I was thinking Civil War era, but wasn't sure due to it being a 1-piece.

:icon_thumright:Nice...real nice.

oh you did get some goods!

The MA button would predate the CW, and maybe just post date 1812. You should easily be able to figure it out.

Cool button. Like IP mentioned, closer to 1812.

Your button is Alberts MS 33-B. No date given, but 33-A has the mark: 26 stars encircling "Kendrick & Co./ Waterbury" so you might be able to get a rough idea of time frame by researching that mark.

Very nice draped bust cent and a great selection of relics! Congrats on some nice finds again!

Great finds Oxbow! I like anything "MA" related

Niel, IP, Thank you, I'll clean the back up a little more to see if there are any other back marks.

Erik, its my first Draped Bust from this site, in fact, its my first LC in general from this site. Lots of KGII's, a few CT coppers, William III's and other various large coppers, but no other large cents. I'm glad the first one was a good one.

Jeff, its my first Mass button, I'm pretty happy with it. Hopefully it will be the first of many.

No need to do anything to the back, it won't provide anything extra.

Colonial debris?? Nice finds once again.

Colonial debris?? Nice finds once again.

Thank you. There is so much stuff in the ground at this site. Much of it is colonial. I've been told that the townspeople brought whatever they had to burn to the area to feed nutrients into the soil. Furniture, trash, building materials.... lots of debris. Melted globs of brass everywhere, but plenty of good stuff left unharmed.

very nice finds.
One piece state militia s don't come up too often,
I search the local dumps too,
Never know what might turn up.. Congrats again :hello:

Beautiful button.
