I thought I was done hunting this spot for the year! My first visit there this year netted my first capped bust, a couple buttons and some relics. 2nd visit only gave up some buttons and relics. Up until last evening, this spot in the last couple of years has given me 7 LC's, 3 tokens, the capped bust and a couple other coins, everything dating before 1864. Well, I decided to give it one more try since Mike from Woodland Detectors talked me into trying out the Coiltek 5 x 10 Joey Coil...Thanks Mike . There is a decent ironpatch on this site and this coil allowed me to work it slow, netting me some more keepers. Can't get a date off the LC, she's worn pretty smooth and it's the second LC from this site with letters stamped into it. The CW Store Card is the 9th CW token for the year, 3rd of that particular token. I think Joey and I are going to get along pretty good. I have been picking up some surface finds and iron here as well for the eventual plan of building a big shadowbox for this particular site. Thanks for looking.

Not a clue. This is the same site I found the countermarked LC with a TB on it but I didn't figure that one out for sure either.

Thanks, I have found about 5 of these in the past and all of them seem to be in pretty good condition.

Now thats a good site! I"m sure if you really work it harder, you'll find a couple more squeekers.

Thanks Sniffy. I believe I will get a few more keepers there in time. When I dug the LC, I kept trying to probe and pulled out about 5 square nails out of the hole. Ran the coil over again and the iffy signal was still there. Next scoop it was out of the hole and then the coil started singing :headbang:. This is a very rare site here in Michigan. The plat once showed two buildings on this location so maybe it was a tavern, or blacksmith shop, or something else. All I know is I wish I had a bunch more of these types of sites.

Man that LC is quite a site with all that green on it.

The CW Store Card is a nice addition to your growing collection. Been to White Pigeon and Constantine for a hunt or two as well.

Looks like a great spot. Love the counterstamped LC! :icon_thumleft: What kind of depth are you getting out of the Joey? I'm going to be picking one up soon.

This was the maiden voyage for my Joey coil. The LC was at 6" with lots of iron around it. Most of the other targets were shallow. The true test for me will be jumping in a few yards that I have hunted before. I do think it has out-performed my 5" excellerator coil so far for depth, but I will still use that coil also in heavy iron field sites or cellar holes.

I just talked to Robert a little while ago and he said he talked to you. I think he mentioned the seated you found at the old school. I found one there also but in a yard across the road from the school. There is still some finds in these towns but they get beat to death from detectorist from all over. I know the club up north have swarmed these towns on occassion as well. Doesn't stop me, just wish I could find a few more virgin sites, hard to come by. We'll have to get together sometime for a hunt if you're game.

Wallhanger,

Great finds!!!!!!!!! Here is something to think about it with your 2 finds. The Store Token appears to say E.H. Sheldon Hardware. The Largecent is counterstamped with an "HS". Is it possible HS is H. Sheldon? Just a thought,
Jon.

That's a good observation and I'll keep that in mind as I research it a little more. BTW, I seen the birdstones on your avatar, I have one I picked up in a box at a sale one time. Would you or anyone you know be able to identify more about it if I were to send some pics? Thanks.
