We finally have a wet ground here in NE and had a chance to get out with the MXT today. Found a jew harp, door handle and these buttons. I especially like the pewter daisy button. No markings on the backs of either that I could see.

Nice. They both have very intricate detail. They look pretty old.

The one on the right I had to put some vaseline on it to get the details to show in the picture. It's really not that dark.

I've never been a big button guy....

But these look very cool and very old. The only button that I've found and kept was a NY coat button that I dug in Michigan. It's my only CW find to date.

Cole,
Very nice unusual buttons. Great finds.

Those are some good looking buttons Cole--Congrats on a good hunt.

very nice buttons. now the one in your avatar!! did you find it? i would love to hear that story! ;)

Yes, I did find that one this past April. It was the first week with my DFX and I was pretty excited. I found it in the stone foundation wall of where I found the other buttons...about 3 feet away. I'm still hunting that same site and am always amazed at what shows up after a good rain fall. The stone walls have collapsed almost entirely so it's difficult getting around those huge rocks. I've found about 6 copper coins (no gold or silver yet), about 8 jew harps, arrow heads, musket balls, over 100 butttons and cuff links 1/2 of a Navy button, scissors and other misc. stuff. When I saw the back of that daisy button I thought it was another button like in my avatar. I also purchased an MXT which is how I found those two buttons in my original message. It seems to do a better job descriminating from those large nail heads and real buttons.

looks like you have a great spot! i would have freaked to find a continental army button! talk about a piece of history! outstanding!

I wasn't quite sure what it was until we brushed off the dirt. Many people thought it was a fake, some people thought it was from a pair of Levi's. I had to take it to Don Troiani for authentication just to ease my mind. I was amazed at the buttons he had..Talking about a nice collection!

On another note, we found the well and the privy. They privy ground is so hard and full of rocks. Does anyone know of a good web site that gives instructions?
