Found the first one below at our colonial site on Friday where I'd previously dug the French 84th regimental button. After cleaning I noticed a design around the edge and what appears to be a "5" on the front. But I may be fooling myself. What do you think? I also dug a 2nd button with a similar perimeter design on the front, but couldn't see any other detail.

At the site I hunted yesterday where I posted the 1/2 reale, I noticed while cleaning that one of the small buttons had "USMA" and a wreath on the front, and "Doherty's Patent" on the reverse. I figure this is some kind of post-war underwear button, but not sure. Any help ID'ing either of these buttons is appreciated. Thanks!

Give it an HP soak and some brushing to thin the corrosion. But I'm pretty sure that it's wishful thinking.
