Since getting my metal detector about a week ago, I have been eager to find some good spots. I've done some research on my area but not having much luck locating the places I find on modern maps, although I'm working on overlaying maps now. I went out to the beach and I was getting readings everywhere and I was unable to find anything, not even trash haha. I watched a few more videos though and I think I may have needed to tune it as the weather was a bit chilly and may have had some of the sensitivity set wrong. Any tips for the beach and this issue?

Anyway, here are the more interesting finds from a few different places I went.

I found this fork this other day at what I'm pretty sure is an old house site that is pretty overgrown. It was about 8" deep with a ton of oyster shells. From what I could find online its from a WW2 issued mess kit.

I found this old shotgun shell bottom today, if you can't tell from the picture it says 'Remington UMC No 16 Nitro Club' and from what I could find online for this was that they were produced from 1913-1916 but am still unsure. Maybe someone here knows better?

Thanks for looking everyone, I hope to step up my finds in the not to distant future as I get more comfortable with my detector. The community and 'banner' finds make me want to go out and hunt all the time, my new hobby/addiction.

Cool finds. Welcome to the TN! Some beaches can be tough if there is black sand present (that doesn't mean the beach looks black, there are small mineralized bits of sand and such that act as "hot rocks" and fool your detector.) You definately need to GB your detector (if possible) and set your discrimination accordingly. Dig everything until you get used to how your detector responds to different targets. Good luck!

Off to a great start and hunting a promising area to boot,The age alone ups the chances of finding something good out there!!!Thanks for sharing and welcome to the forum!!

Nice going! The fork is very cool. And a couple of weeks ago I also found a Nitro Club shell, and I'm pretty sure that it was indeed made from 1913-1916. HH
