hello all finally got out and did some detecting back to the spot i found my 1803 lc. i have found alot of buttons here. this site being the age that it is every signal is some thing interesting. i was digging behind the cellar wall 5 or six shovel fulls and sweep when i got a nickel reading a plain button with the words gilt with 2 arrows pointing to them. about 10 more shovel fulls i got a solid lc reading the machine was freakin i start get my happy dance shoes on i found a nice round a bit small for a lc maybe a king george half penny wipe my finger across and see a button with a ring of hand stamped sort of stars on it. the shank is still there bent but there. i have seen a bunch of dandy buttons here on tnet so i think that is what i got. not quite the tune i wanted to h dance to but i'll take it
hh and good luck to all

Dylan, I am no expert, but my only "dandy" butttons have been slightly larger than a large cent, you said yours is slightly smaller. It is a beauty, as is the Gilt button. My estimate would be circa 1800. The coin would seem to confirm that.

I am curious. Are you digging out all of the dirt surrounding the cellar walls? The reason I ask is that I recently found a cellar hole that is so trashy that my DFX goes crazy with every sweep. I got my new DD 4x6 earlier this week so I hope to get back to the site soon.

Re: a dandy button i think pics added

thanks guys and gal i cleaned it up a bit and should have the pics up in the am. neil i'm lucky with this spot most of the trash is old nails i dig every signal. there is so much growth over the site that i'm sraping about 3 inches off and getting signals i'd keep hitting that spot you have. clear a spot out and use itas a dump spot thats what i have been doing today i got the base of what my dad says is called an onion bottle because of its shape middle to late 1700's good luck and hh to all. thanks as always to my av guy kenb
