Managed to get out 3 times since the last post with some decent results. Didn't find anything exceptional but managed to recover a few early coins and relics.

Was happy to get my third old silver for this year. An other Seated dime 1853 (all of my Seated dimes are from 1853 for some reason)

An other old silver was an unusual relic that I believe to be a cover from a snuff box or from an old compass (late 1700's to mid 1800's)
It features a cross on one side and a Windrose on the other (thus the early compass theory) It doesn't have a hallmark but is made of 6 gr. of sterling silver.

Here's an example of a Windrose on a late 1700's compass.

Way to go, some amazing finds. I dug one of those Du Bas half pennies here on Long Island.

Super buttons

Wow, if I found any of these items out of 3 hunts I would certainly call it an exceptional find! Love the bell. I have always been interested in those for some reason!

Can't blame you, those early bells are a really cool relic. Was glad to find this one with a maker's mark.

Absolutely fabulous finds. Aureus, any one of those finds would make my day.
Regarding the "Windrose", not disputing it may be a compass cover. That is a decorative method of setting a flat backed or cabochon gemstone. The little beads formed at the center secured the now missing stone.

Lots of nice coins and buttons, but I really like that silver relic.
I think your right, looks like it’s part of a windrose compass.

Same here, I'm always glad to find anything unusual.

Before 1853, the price of silver had risen to the point that a dime or quarter had more than face value in silver which caused hoarding. The arrows on your 1853 indicate that the silver content was lowered beginning that year. Once the content was lowered, the mint cranked out millions of silver coins in '53. They were not hoarded and they circulated. That's why so many 1853 coins are found on this forum. There's a load of them out there. Gary

Thanks for the info Gary.:icon_thumleft:

Great assortment of early finds. I'm amazed how many Canadian bank tokens you find. They must have been more common than I realized.

They are much more common than in US

Fantastic variety of of coins, tokens, and relics. The variety of tokens found in Canada never ceases to amaze me.

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing a few days back. It's crazy all the varieties found over here.

Looks like you have been very productive Aureus. Old silver is always a treat, but I'm really enjoying the pics of those old coppers. I've not seen too many like those posted here before. Great stuff!

Thanks silvermonkey. I really like finding the early coppers coins, especially since the silver ones don't show up that often.

I can only imagine how much fun all of those awesome targets must have been to dig. Well done, incredible assortment, huge congrats!!!

Thanks pa-dirt_nc-sand

Thanks Royn2751. I actually thought it could be a stone setting as well. In this case it would probably be a snuff box cover.
