Re: A few finds this week

Don´t know yet, got to get my electrolyte on it first. But it´s a medieval one, definately !
The Fibula is 70bc to 90ad approx for the style.

Re: A few finds this week

Awesome finds Ray! That fibula is very nice, 2000 years old, congrats! You have made some very nice finds over the past few months. Having detected with you, I know they were not easy finds. I will be in touch soon, we will get together even if we can't detect and have a good time, Bernd included! A snowy BBQ on the grill sounds like fun. HH, Mike

Re: A few finds this week

good finds.

Re: A few finds this week

Yep Mike, that would be fun, just let me know when ;-)
After Thursday morning it´ll be 3 to 6 weeks before I´ll detect again at the soonest, as I´ve got two ops on the same hand (Might be 3 or 4 as the finger next door is playing up too). Tomorrow night I´m going out for a few hours (Even if it rains, then I´ll take pasture).

Re: A few finds this week

Ray ,that Roman Fibula kicks a$$ . Good stuff!

Re: A few finds this week

Thanks Trent ;-)
Well tomorrow got the two ops, so want to get out today before the cabin fever sets in, but the winter has just decided to really kick in with 0 degrees, and snow coming down like there´s no tomorrow :-(
But, there´s still hope for later in the day, so long as it´s doesn´t settle too deep.

Ditto, unusual type (well over here anyway).

Re: A few finds this week

nice finds and good luck on your next hunt.

Re: A few finds this week

Got out this evening, it was actually warmer on top of the hill (minus 1.0 Celsius), than it was in the valley (Minus 3 Celsius).
Got 6 coins (all 1800´s), but one of them was a Silver 20 Pfennig. Also got 6 buttons, a medieval belt buckle part, 5 lead bag seals, and another medieval hammer (Makes about 6 or 7 of those I now have).

Re: A few finds this week

Nice finds.
Thanks for sharing.
Can we see a close up of the cleaned head?

Re: A few finds this week

Will do when it´s cleaned, but had two operations on my right hand Thursday, so it´ll be a while before I can clean them (Or go hunting again)

Re: A few finds this week

Re: A few finds this week

Nice finds !!!! good hunting and happy holidays!!! ;D

Re: A few finds this week

The pictured hammer could be Celtic, as the third biggest Opiidium in Europe is only 15km away, but also 7 castles, 20+ churches, water mills, and Roman temples, Villa Rustica, and Grave Mounds (Hügel Gräber), but the other hammer came later in the week, seem to be collecting them ;)
Haven´t had time to clean them, or take them to my museum curator yet, as my hand has lots of stichtes in it :-\

Vercingetorix, I used to be down in Toulose every week, and Pau, Bordeaux etc. too !! But not detecting, used to stay over at the Routiers by the market ! ;D

Re: A few finds this week

youre lorry driver right ?

hope you enjoyed your stay in Toulouse , some good restaurants down there too . I live a few kilometers to the north actually a small town along the highway .
don't worry you didn't miss anything since it is really hard to find a place to detect in the aera surrounding the city , lots of protected sites too .
you can try electrolysis to clean it up , thats what I did with mine and it worked pretty well ... ;D

Re: A few finds this week

Hi Laurent
Used to be a lorry driver, now a bit dissabled, due to a trip down some stairs on ice. But, some morphine, and I can still detect ! ::)
Used to take chemicals and plastics down, then bring back wine, calvados, and cognac !! ;D
HH Ray

Re: A few finds this week

I 'm not a lorry driver but had a car accident a few years back . I spent quite a few months at the hospital under morphine too ... but I completely got over it now .

tough life :'(

Re: A few finds this week

Hope for an improvement soon, had two operations on my hand last Tursday, and on the 29th I have to go to the pain clinic. At the moment I´m on 22 pain killers a day, which includes the 140mg of morphine ( 2x60mg+1x20mg).
So I´m hoping ;-) and glad you got over it. I miss the laid back style and the cuisine of France.
HH Ray
