It's been a long time posting and thought I would drop a line or two. Been keeping busy here but have been out a few times and managed a few keepers along the way. Had a good friend from the forum down last weekend and had a great hunt together as we always do. Was a late night getting home but was fun all the same. Got a few pic's of some of the finds this year so far and hope you enjoy them!!

First is a beauty 1800 U.S. large cent followed up by a bugle cap badge. Next is what looks like a cape clasp but not sure of the date or who used it. Might be military but unsure right now. The next few pic's are of a couple of better buttons I have dug last weekend. First being an Officers 68th regiment and followed up by a Nova Scotia Fencibles Officers button. It's a tiny one and only measures 12mm in diameter. Last photo for the moment is a cool piece. It's a lead disc with the words "Store Keepers General, London" on it. Would be the front section of the badge worn by the person that handed out the good to the Natives I believe. I am unsure of the exact date for this piece and maybe someone here knows and has more info about it. Thanks for looking and HH all.

Great finds !

That button is Banner Worthy Shes a beauty!!!

Great finds! LOVE THE FLOWING LIBERTY 1800 Coin!!

Good stuff there. I would like to get my coil over one of those NS buttons. One of our sites had a soldier from that unit, and the Cladman found a pewter, but in the many military I dug there I wasn't so lucky. It was cool being able to connect a name to his button, and is why I really wanted one.

Nice finds...congrats !

Hey IP and long time no see. Hope all is well for you guys down East and your making it out. That NS button was a nice find for me and one that hits close to home as family all over there. Of all the buttons I have dug here, this is my first Officers one being from down there. This was from an old homestead here and after a bit of research, managed to link it....I think.... Seems this reg. just made it to Kingston and never to my area and never even seen any 1812 action either. This field keeps amazing me and never know what Reg. will show up next. To bad it's littered with 1000 pop cans that have been in with mowers grrrrr. I would think you would have found a few your way over the years though and maybe that site is still holding back it's best for you.......

It was a great site and we hit it very hard, and have done so for 10 years now. It's just not worth going back. As for the button that would be a rare one to dig anywhere, probably very few officers in that unit. It's one that can't be judged by dollar value because if I had one I wouldn't sell it for 5 times what I would be offered.... especially if it came from the site where we know the soldier.

Wow, 10 years is a long time to hit a site, but then again, I have a few like that and and hit in spring and fall for a lil sweep over. Although getting pretty quiet these days there. Then again, a few of my sites are less then a 5 minute walk, and not the 30 minutes you guys travel at times. Oh I remember a few long walks there lol. As for the button....same thinking as you and maybe had a handful of Officers in it and might be worth a few dollars....but tie that connection to it and be a hard pry from the hand at any price.

What coin was lieing up next to the 1800 U.S. large cent? Spanish Silver?

Nice bunch :icon_thumright:

I'd still hunt there if it wasn't for all the small modern trash that has been spread over the past few years. When you combine that with a fairly quiet place it makes it no longer worth while.

Those two fields side by side gave up about 20+ Rev War buttons, 20+ 1812 buttons, my early masonic ring, Romeo's silver whistle, a large amount of coppers including a collectible stamped one. Oh and my Rosa Americana... shouldn't have forgot the one because one sites is called the Rosa Hill. Anyway, that was one of the first old places I hunted and I have very fond memories 10 years after my best digs there, and if I'm still around in 40 years I'll probably like them even more. It is one of the places that will define the good old days for me.
