I’m on a business trip to Schweinfurt. I went into work early and got off early, was a very beautiful day in the mid 50sF/13C and I got a good 1.5 hours detecting in after work on a nice flat plowed field close to where I found some other nice relics and two Roman coins last year. I had a good hunt but my ass is dragging, LOL. Here’s the finds not cleaned and fresh from the dirt. A glass button, two metal buttons and a piece of a sleigh bell or small crotal bell.
Part of a square or rectangular buckle, a broken piece from a harness of bridle, anothet broken buckle and a pull handle from a drawer.
A small lead soldier kneeling and facing right, looks to be of WWI era. A bullet and an older thimble
A Mercedes Benz emblem, about 2.5“ in diameter.
Three crusty coins.
Two finger rings and a religious pendant. HH, Mike
I cleaned up one of the rings, gave it a light brushing under water and it still had a crusty patina on it so I went over it lightly with a Dremel and wire brush attachment . It is interesting to see how patinas form in the fields. The original patina is a typical dark green like we find on coins and such, I did not remove what was left of that green patina however, the crusty patina over the green patina makes me wonder if it is not from modern day fertilizer and chemicals. Here’s the ring cleaned, looks like an older signet ring with the initials RK and some design, the design around the initials appear to be hand engraved but I doubt it is much older than mid to late 1800s.
