My friend from the local historical society took me to 2 historical properties that both date back to the 1700s. The first property, the former home of a Revolutionary War soldier, was so full of trash and big iron that it was impossible to find much worth digging than a couple of clad coins. The entire 5 acre property grunted and chopped with iron. Too bad--though I helped my friend find his first ever coin! A 1990 clad dime.

The next site he took me to was a large rock up in the woods behind a cottage that was used by the Lincolns (yes, those Lincolns!). The rock was used as a picnic site by everyone from the area for 100s of years. I dug a ton of modern bullet casings (even though it's a part of a preserve and not supposed to be hunted on) and a few other things. I found my first musket ball! And a very thin silver ornamentation that was once tacked to something. Also a huuuge horseshoe that still has 4 of its square nails in it and another rimfire shell (not pictured). I'm donating the horseshoe to my friend at the historical society as a thank you for showing me the sites.

Thanks for viewing and HH!
