The hunt this afternoon started off with Sterling though I wasn't certain until preparng the post. The obverse makes it quite clear that the indented space bears the word "STERLING".
.
The two oldest coins dug are this "no-date" Buff and a toast '18 wheat .
Got a shotgun brass base and this .32 cal pistol ball .
A hole that yielded a broken entwined hearts ring also had a small oval silvered piece that fit over one of the hearts; it was found free in the same hole .
Dug the smallest pocket knife ever for me and it was a promotional piece for a Baltimore used car dealer, Weber & Greenwalt Motors on Belair Road. Thanks to Kilduff's Baltimore history website I have a photo of this dealership on Eastern Avenue .
Here's the little pocket knife .
Got some unidentified brass pieces and an oval brass piece with fancy design and a hint of gilt .
