I started searching an old mill site today that dates to the late 1700's and found some of the most cruddy, smashed, worn out stuff I have ever found on one site. The cartwheel was probably my best find for the day, but the counter-stamp and fancy button are pretty cool, too. The button is smashed flat but still gives good detail on the front. I have a bunch more that is still in the tumbler, which I will post later.

Nice old stuff, weโ€™re hitting an old mill and failed dam site today, I hope we have as much luck

What are you using for abrasive in your tumbler? Crushed walnut shells? Gary

These pieces are so cruddy and probably of not much value, so I am using a 50/50 mix of 600 grit Silicon Carbide and Bar Keepers Friend. Ordinarily, I would use I use 2 parts of Bar Keepers Cleanser to one part 1000 Silicon Carbide grit.

Great finds I would be doing cart wheels if I found that and a counter stamp as well . My town was founded in 1826 booring compared to aot of othere places. I need to hunt a place like that some day. Glad you did so well and hope those coins come out good.....Tommy

Tommy you need to head over to Sault Ste. Marie. I was reading about that place and it's a lot older than your town. Just a thought. Gary

Some very nice old coppers Creskol! I've only ever found one LC witha counterstamp. And I've never come across a Cartwheel penny. Both of those finds would make me a happy man!
