Today, I finally got a chance to hit a new permission on the Connecticut River in NH that'd I've been dreaming of for the last year. The few hundred acres screams a colonial activity and in my imagination there were Spanish silvers just laying around everywhere. We got there around noon and got to swinging, signals were sparse and the ground was surprisingly quiet but we diligently worked away for hours.
After 4 hours I hollered to my buddy "Nothing! Not even a damn button," and slumped down on to the ground next to an old farm road.
"I got one Indian," he called back "I'm so surprised there's not more here"
"It's 4:30," I said entirely dejected" it's time to go"
"Yeah, I guess it is" he said and started walking towards me.
I got up of the ground and as I did caught a high tone in my Vance muffs. "Just another piece of trash." I mumbled I didn't even look at the VDI just popped a shallow plug. There sitting in the dirt pile was a copper, I picked it up, yet couldn't find the right words to describe it.
"Hey, I just got a copper! Its the one, you know, the one with the bow" I said as I made awkward hand gestures behind my head and my brain attempted to pull a name out of the cobwebs.
"A Liberty Cap?" he shouted.
"Yeah, thats the one"
We spent another hour and a half in that field, but found nothing else. Headed back later this week.
