A friend and I got out to a site I found last week. I only scratched the surface on the day I was there so we continued yesterday where I left off. This site is a field where a house stood. Based on the finds I would say the house was torn down in the 60's but was probably built in the early 1800s. There was a lot of "modern" trash to contend with on the main site but a few keepers were still managed. Found a couple crotal bells, a few coins, some relics, a Buenos Aries 1882 Contentinal Exposition medalion (translate anyone?), a spoon (love it), tool patent label, a very cool Dinky Toy (1:22 scale), a lead button, and a spiggot tap.

I have a feeling that there may be an older site on top of this site. I base this on the George I Irish Hibernia coin and the spiggot tap. To me this says 1700s site. I will be going back to this site and really giving it a good work over.

We also hit a couple other sites where I found the LC and the silver 1940 quarter.

Thanks for looking!

Re: A good mix of targets...

:o Great bunch of finds you have there. Looks like you might be on to something thinking this site could go back into the 1700s. Like the little display holders you use on your coins!

Great bunch of finds Romeo !!!!!!! and they're old too, those are the kind of places I try to find. Love that old chevy.

Re: A good mix of targets...

Can anyone translate the Buenos Aries medal? Thanks.

Re: A good mix of targets...

Nice Hibernia coppa, dude! How deep was he?

Re: A good mix of targets...

Very nice variety of finds!

Just think how boring it would be to just find nothing but coins :D

Not very deep...just 3 inches. The field is a hay field and has probably been plowed a few times in the past. Still more there...

Re: A good mix of targets...

That would be a good mix over here too ;D

Re: A good mix of targets...

Great finds Romeo. Love the coppa! ;D Three inches deep. :o What kind of signal did it give you? I'm not familiar with the minelab but coins like that usually give me a signal between zinc penny and copper penny on my DFX.

Re: A good mix of targets...

Great hunt and finds. Looks pretty sweet. Old stuff and silver too. ;D

Keep us posted. Should find more good stuff there.

Re: A good mix of targets...

Thanks to KirkPA for identifying the coin as a Geo. I Hibernia Irish Farthing...that would date this coin to 1722 -1724...which would make this my oldest coin found yet!!!

Nice going on the finds, the coin is known as a Woods Hibernia Halfpenny, Dr Phil Mossman is tracking the ground founds, so I will let him know of this post. (not sure if he is done with his survey or not)

Here's hoping more goodies are ahead for you at this site.

I e-mailed Dr. Philip Mossman my 1700 cut William III halfpenny, and he logged it into the survey that he is conducting.
