I noticed that as well! His Grandpa should have corrected him!

But then, I guess the young fellow was in a state of shock, probably knew very little about his grandfather's history. Note the CIB & Bronze Star on the old man's chest. Odds are he never talked about his experiences. And, he was a First Lieutenant, possibly a battlefield commission.
