A SILVER INDIAN HEAD??? and Seated Handful!

Hello All!

Came back from vacation and in such a hurry to hunt that I forgot my video camera :BangHead: so you'll have to make do with photos!

I wanted to post a photo first off of an item which got an ID a while back and I'm thrilled to dig--it's a hammer plate from a boxlock pistol!

So I went out and dug in the cane fields and turned up a nice Eagle "I" vest button. Also got a little pocket watch winder and a nice little flat button. (And of course, the ever-present V nickel)

Picked a nice high tone out of the iron and saw a flash of silver in the hole!

It was an 1858 Seated Dime!

Not long after that, near my parking spot in the turn row, I flipped out Seated #2, an 1848-O Seated Half Dime!

Then it started to get hot. Like 95 degrees hot! So I started to take breaks and sweat my @$$ off. The I got a clear, high tone again and saw Seated #3 in the clod! 1842-O Dime!

After that I was just amazed! What a handful!!! :hello2:

Last of all I stumbled on a Louisiana Knights Templar badge! Had never seen one of these before so I had no idea what I was looking at when dug:

But I will update this thread with a photo of it toothpicked off--and I DID manage to find a photo of a non-dug one online! It is the "jewel" from the 31st Triennial encampment of 1910. Perhaps I can find the Louisiana shaped piece and the sword in that field too!

So after lunch I went to site #2, just out of curiosity to see if there was anything to be found there. I dug several Maynard carbine casings (the butt end of them, which you can always identify by the solder marks and the tiny hole in the center):

Shangalang joined me, and I won't tell ya what he found but he needs to post it! Here's a photo though ;)

IMG_9543.webp

After that excitement we kept digging and I got a piece of a cast brass "oak leaves" item that I've dug a piece of before on the site (help is appreciated!)

Also got a "newer" tin soldier, and what I believe is a spur that fit into the boot heel. Again, I'd appreciate an ID, as this there isn't anything like this in my two spur books:

Shangalang dug a STUNNING 1888 Seated Dime which I hope he posts!

He also got what we *think* may be a little piece of GOLD:

Then I got a nice high tone, and dug carefully, expecting another silver dime. It was a silver Indian Head. :icon_scratch: :icon_thumright:

I have no idea what this is off of. (Help appreciated here as well!) But I sure do like it!

(marked "Sterling" on the reverse)

So I was SUPER pleased with the finds from these two sites!

Awesome - Three Liberty Seated coins! :headbang: Not often you do that in a single outing.

smack city for sure! what a hunt! awesome finds with very cool finds with sweet old silver. the pistol piece is way cool too. the silver Indian surprised me. You guys find the really awesome stuff.

Wow great finds.....

BuckleBoy you are my hero. It’s unbelievable what you find. Those cane fields really produce for you. I went out today and with humidity it was 106. Louisiana is incredible hot this year. Congratulations again on a dream hunt that’s a lot of silver. Just incredible [emoji1360]

Looks like another killer hunt for you all. That little lead horse and rider looks awful familiar.....

Seated coins are elusive around here. I've never found one even though I'm hunting 1870-1890 farms that are no longer there. They should be there but??? You're a lucky guy. Gary

:blob8::blob8::blob8:Seated coins, great artifacts and maybe some gold to boot, what a day you guys had!!! You were on fire! Congratulations! Makes me want to get off the beaches and hit some dirt. :occasion14:

Awesome day. I really like the sterling Indian Head, but 3 seated coins is amazing.

Great Job

Pete

Great finds Buckleboy. Those would make anyone's day (or month) ! Love all those Seated coins, the Indian Head and the Templar badge.

Those coins would be the finds of a lifetime for most of us! Congrats!

Whoa, great finds! Congratulations on the awesome day

Great finds and congrats on the seateds. Are you finding individual house sites in the cane fields or are the finds randomly scattered?

Amazing finds and great photos. Way to go on a successful outing!

Shaaaazam!! Well worth the time you spent in the oven!! I spent a few hours hunting up here in New England and it was hot, I can’t imagine how hot it is down in looziana in July, excellent job brother!!
